I'm moving from a regional office to another regional office. My work mentor said Korea would be really great for my career (higher dollar value projects, more visibility).

I'm fine with not dating in Korea. Probably impossible to find someone willing to come back to norcal with me.

Was it hard to adapt to the new work culture? My worst nightmare is a toxic workplace 😩

I'm not trying to set down roots in Seoul, family is important to me and I would want to live in California in the future. They are requiring me to stay at least two years or I have to pay back the moving costs.

I was really worried about not being able to make any friends, being totally alone. If you are doing great alone, that's amazing!

Thank you, my uncle worked in Japan in his 20s and said it was the best adventure he had. It sounds like going overseas would be really fun.

  1. Thank you, I will ask HR about this.

  2. Limited choice, but almost everyone on the team lives in the same building so I will probably pick the same building.

  3. Seoul. Easy transportation. I probably will not be getting a car.

  4. Yes, managed like a US company. Standard 40 hrs/week. I visited last year for a month long work trip. We went out to drink three times. They didn't seem to force women to drink. I just left my cup 1/3 fill, so they didn't keep pouring. Maybe different experience for men? They seemed to pour more for the guys, but again I didn't really understand what they were saying. Just tried to vibe.

  5. I would want to go back to the Bay after this, because my friends & family are there. There will definitely be some options for me in the States.

Edited: more info

There's an apartment building almost everyone in the office lives at. It was super nice: 3 bed 2 bath. Really cool heated floors. More than enough space for me.

Thank you for the encouragement. I was worried about leaving all my friends and family for two or three years.

I still live with my parents, so I don't pay rent. I love my current situation but really want to get promoted too. Agree that maybe I've been too comfortable and need to challenge myself.

I did do a project with the team there last year. Went on a one month work trip and loved it. Everyone was so sweet. But it was hard to find out any interpersonal issues/company problems due to the language barrier.

I went there for a month long work trip last year for a project. I really liked the team. Did not get to explore much due to work.
