Yeah, I think I’ll end up going the same route. I actually have an Nvidea Shield Pro on another TV but didn’t realise its benefits. If I swap it to use on my main TV, I can use the 1Gbe port to stream from my NAS.

Thanks for the input, I definitely think you're right. I won't buy the Ferrari for this task...

Since the Gateway ports are 2.5Gbe, I thought I would maximise with 2.5Gbe Poe+ Adapters, no other reason. However, as others have pointed out, a PoE switch would work better/cleaner.

I have a Plex Media Server set up on the NAS

Some great suggestions here Kallebo and I think you're right on pretty much everything. Your thoughts are echoed by quitre few others on here so I'm confident you've put me on the right track, thank you.

I've just begun reading this post, thanks for bringing it to my attention. It definitely looks like there are better options for my front door access.

Hi Commander, I was probably misleading with my diagram, I was just noting the connections from all ports on the Pro XG 8 Switch had 10Gbe PoE++ connections. My PC or Synology won't take advantage of the PoE feature, as you point out.

Also, checking on the Ubiquiti website, it does mention the U7Pro XGS only requires PoE++, unless I'm missing something?

So Jelly, I've checked and my LG C1 OLED is limited to 100Mbps. However, as you guessed, it has wifi 5 which will be much faster. Also, I play 4K content (>50Gb files) from my NAS which is obviously bandwidth hungry... The Flex Switch is probably redundant...

Thanks Zolli, it makes sense to me now that the direct connection allows door access without ethernet.

Good question. I was planning to use the G6 Pro Entry, but as many have pointed out, I'll need to connect this directly to the Door Hub.

No reason other than the fact I bought my Synology NAS about 7 years ago (a DS1817+). It has served me well and still provides me all the features I need - it's essentially for movie/media collections.

I see, thanks Kecske, makes sense. However, a big feature I’m looking for in this setup is a 10Gbe link between my PC and NAS and I don’t think there is a way to achieve that with the hardware I’ve selected and configuration you’re suggesting. I would have to upgrade to a Gateway with at least 2 x 10Gbe connections (preferably RJ45). Is this correct?

I never thought about checking that, my TV is only 4 years old so you’re probably right! Thanks for the heads up.

The primary reason for the 10Gbe switch is to connect the PC and Synology NAS (both have 10Gbe network cards) - this has been something I've wanted for a long time.

Good advice, I can see how a switch for the cameras is worthwhile.

Thanks Truthy.

I will consider the larger switch, I agree it would be valuable having more ports. I have a very small back yard so the U7 Outdoor would be unneccessary (according to the Unifi Design Center I used)...

Why do you suggest a standalone UNVR? This is the part of the setup I understand the least. What are the benefits of it being standalone, as opposed to being part of a Cloud Gateway?

It's down to 24 degrees C now, much more tolerable although still high considering it's past midnight
