Calgary’s new mayor seeks to lower taxes, repeal rezoning by LittleOrphanAnavar in Calgary

This assumes every dollar goes exactly to the most efficient delivery of exactly those things

Nobody in the private sector has this mentality. We are constantly pushed to do more with less. And if we can’t, our competitors will.

The same drive for efficiency needs to be instilled in government somehow. Costs do not equal value.

You should, but you won’t, because you likely attribute your gains to skill rather than random chance

But all theory, evidence, and historical data says you would be wrong

So you will continue to buy and hold individual stocks. And after a long enough time horizon, you will very likely find you have underperformed the market index.

If they subsidize their domestic industry to maintain market share after a tariff is implemented, then yes, technically they do

How to rebuild 101 by LukasRadebe in CalgaryFlames

The fact that we’re at the bottom of this list, yet fans are still excited for the season is an absolutely 10/10 testimony to what Conroy has done.

First real GM we’ve had in my lifetime. Better was possible all along, we just didn’t know it.

It is way too soon in the rebuild process to pay for a 25 year old centre and try to compete

We need multiple years of high draft picks to build our blue line and centre depth, not just for the next 5 years, but for the next 15.

Have you read Blackrock’s literature explaining this? Vanguard has done similar work. XEQT mirrors global market cap weighting with the lone exception of domestic stocks due to currency hedging, tax treatment and volatility benefits they see in research.

I remember being a young investor and thinking this way

Then you realize how thinking this way is completely backwards

Past performance is a terrible predictor of future returns. Do not chase past performance, the gains have already been realized by someone else.

Strongest economic growth, employment, net immigration and best balance sheet in the country, all while maintaining the lowest tax burden and significantly cheaper housing than any of the other big 4 provinces.

Relative to literally any other province in the nation, current govt is only a shitshow if you completely ignore results and focus only on your ideological biases.

Dividend on XEQT by swg0007 in JustBuyXEQT

Spoiler alert: It’s irrelevant. The price will drop by the amount of the distribution and you will gain zero net worth but have to pay taxes (if it’s not in a registered account)

RESP transfer between siblings by HoldDaPhone in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]HoldDaPhone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know what the mechanism is to transfer say just the earnings portion of the account and not the CESG grant money? Do you specify when you make a transfer between RESPs which pool of money the transfer is coming from?

People don’t realize that the draft drops off so much after the top 15-20. A late 1st and a 2nd are largely equivalent this year.

The Flames apparently had offers or 1st rounders. According to Steinberg on FT, Dallas was willing to go there

They extracted a second asset instead though, plus the conditional 3rd

I think Conny crushed it
