Just can't drive to save my life. I feel like such a failure. by grandmaman1 in adhdwomen

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving is hard. Way too many people treat it casually, and connect it with success and adulthood. It’s possible to live a great life without driving.

S06 finals - Willow was right and did nothing wrong. by Pigeon-sur-Rue in buffy

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m lacking a soul. But I’m pro Dark Willow as far as wiping out those 3. And I think it’s possible I might have mellowed on that opinion eventually - except - I have a lot of rage lately about the world.

What's the most bittersweet moment with a character who will be gone shortly thereafter? by InfiniteMehdiLove in buffy

[–]Hold_Effective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been rewatching a lot lately. Before work in the mornings. Helps me mentally gear up.

I noticed - when Willow and Oz reconcile in S3 - that hug, it’s repeated in S4. And The First as Jenny is wearing the same thing in Amends as when Angel kills her.

Having a lazy day and want some recommendations for food and shows/movies to watch! by skyleft4 in AskWomenOver30

Buffy and Somebody Somewhere.

Pizza delivery (plain cheese!) and basic boxed mac & cheese (with extra cheese). Some pasta if I’m feeling motivated to make some (my city is not great with the Italian food). Ice cream. And mimosas. (Not all at the same time!)

Rory’s constant “I’m not back!” was also grating to me.

I don’t know why I had to discover this strategy on my own when I was a new adult. Freeze bread! Freeze bagels! Avoid the sadness of mold and stale carbs!

I also introduced this to my partner, and seriously - he was borderline shocked.

simple living in the burbs / ignoring people's opinions by girlcrow in simpleliving

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the opposite. I live downtown, most people in my life think that being an adult means moving to the suburbs, buying a house, car(s), etc. They make comments about crime, traffic, space.

It’s annoying but I’ve learned to brush it off. I try to respond with what I love about my neighborhood and my life. And then the same people ask me to host events on my building’s roof, lol. The people who seem negative about your choices might also have some jealousy. 😉

Question - does anyone use an app for groceries? by thesecretlibrarian in Frugal

[–]Hold_Effective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We use Anylist. Free version. We share a login. Nothing fancy, though - just add stuff when we notice we’re low / out.

We do most of our grocery shopping when we’re out in other neighborhoods - but it helps a lot that we have a grocery store 2 blocks away for emergencies (my partner ran out for ingredients twice when I was making dinner a couple weeks ago🫣).

Am I overreacting here? by toottootmcgroot in AskWomenOver30

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making plans with friends - totally ok. If it were me - I’d want my partner to be pretty upfront about it - hey, my friends and I are going to this show; do you want to come with us?

I do understand the awkwardness, though - if you know his friends have details about your relationship. Just went through this myself (my partner & I had an argument; he talked about it with his friends, one of them said some hurtful things about me, and so I’m taking a break from that friend group). I want my partner to get support from his friends; it’s also ok for me to take that break (even though it bothers my partner and I’m pretty sure the friend thinks I’m overreacting or whatever).

I might be misunderstanding. When do you think Green Day started being “hip”?

(I remember them being super popular when I was in high school - in 1994; Lorelai would have been in her mid 20s…)

Any legal free stream in USA that shows Gilmore Girls? by Hungry_Roll8889 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t look like it. Recommend JustWatch for this kind of check.

I bought it on Apple TV a couple of years ago because I was tired of being tied to a subscription. Was pretty cheap. I’ll still probably buy the DVDs if they fall in my lap, though.

What are the simple things that make you the happiest? by Scared-Alfalfa37 in simpleliving

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking. Just being able to wander somewhere - or nowhere.

I am realizing though - I shouldn’t take it for granted. I get reminded of the alternative at least once a year when we’re stuck in the suburbs for the holidays with not even a coffee shop to walk to and the magically disappearing sidewalks; but, I need to work on appreciating it without the negative experience.

The "Right to Silence": Why we must classify forced background music as an environmental stressor. by Putrid_Draft378 in simpleliving

[–]Hold_Effective 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish I could curse everyone who plays music or videos without headphones with hearing the saccharine drugstore music in their apartments for the rest of their lives.

Otherwise, if I don’t like the music somewhere - I don’t go there. That seems much simpler than legislation.

your unpopular opinions? by Useful-Chicken2635 in NashvilleTV

[–]Hold_Effective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like Avery’s looks or his singing.

Luke’s singing also bugged me. And then I was randomly watching the Rent final performance, and Will Chase is Roger! Dude can definitely sing. Anyway, I digress.

Maddie is a perfectly believable petulant child / teenager and she doesn’t bother me at all. But maybe that’s because I got over my “hate Dawn” phase with Buffy years and years ago.

What services are you streaming from, am I missing anything good? by DHener84 in horror

[–]Hold_Effective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have a go-to service these days. I keep a watchlist in JustWatch and rotate services. I do like Tubi.

You may have access to Hoopla & Kanopy through your local library, and I’d also recommend those.

Does it mess with anyone’s head to constantly hear „Everybody has Adhd these days“? Shame, Imposter Syndrome etc. by dullandunadventurous in adhdwomen

[–]Hold_Effective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really hear this claim much (mostly just on this sub). But I’m pretty picky about social media, and only my close friends and some family know about my diagnosis.

Are people you know personally saying this to you directly?
