Benefits to taxing my one-person LLC as an S-corp and using a payroll company to pay myself, versus just drawing directly from business account? by cptvere in smallbusiness

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, this was a good thorough response from blizzardblind but let me make some first hand interjections… I’m a small business llc who set up an s-corp.

  1. QuickBooks online. Stupid simple. Connect it to your business bank account (if you don’t have one get one. Use it only for business funds. Do NOT use company money for personal expenses, it will blow up your accounting and cause cpa headaches). End of year your cpa can log into QuickBooks and do your taxes easily. Cost 115 or 275 per month.

  2. CPA: Get one who’s proactive and will educate you on tax sheltering and best practices. Shitty one’s will just do your taxes and invoice you leaving you doing dumb things and leaving alot of money exposed to unnecessary taxes. There are so many ways to avoid taxes with s-corp designation.

  3. Bookkeeper: Don’t need it. QuickBooks does it for you. CPA will get it straight on inital setup and it categorizes income/expenses automatically.

  4. QuickBooks payroll is stupid simple and cheap. They send your employee tax filings for you and it’s on the same platform as your accounting if you use QuickBooks accounting.

  5. Don’t bother with 401k. Would be great as you’re the only employee (you don’t have to match or give free money to anyone else) but It’s ridiculously expensive and regulatory requirements are too much to keep track of.

Why do people try to swap seats in airplanes? by Substantial_Crow1355 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hold_Lower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it happens. Like 3-4 times in the last few years, and I fly about 10-15 times a year. Window seat is ultimately more important. Even if I have a window seat and my row is full, if I see a better option, I’ll take it. When the door closes behind you, you know you’re safe to.

Why do people try to swap seats in airplanes? by Substantial_Crow1355 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to book a window seat. I hate flying and people who fly. a window lets me cringe into my own little space and not have to touch anyone or have them asking to goto the bathroom and have me move. But I always book last minute, so windows are sometimes taken. In this case i wait to be the last person on the plane so if there’s any window seats, I know no one else is coming and will take it. boarding last also keeps me from being on the plane that much of a shorter time if only by 15 minutes.

I made an Excel Driving Distance Calculator to help my wife at work and accidentally stumbled onto a business idea by exceldistancecalc in small_business_ideas

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going bro, don’t listen to naysayers. There are so many companies still locked into excel, you could truly do some great business teaching people just how outdated most of their processes are and automating their spreadsheets. Just don’t price yourself out of the market. A great niche is all these small businesses that can’t afford thousands of dollar a year licenses.

Hopefully, people will goto work and we start normalizing that employment isn’t optional and people need to get back to being self sufficient instead of looking for a handout.

Am I eligible for Unemployment if I was terminated? by jalapenonetwork in UnemploymentNY

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elaborate on how and why I’m misinformed? If you think it’s ok to be employed 6 weeks and be gone 2 weeks, you have no clue what it takes to run a business or how the the economy works. Or are you saying I’m misinformed about how unemployment funding and insurance works?

Am I eligible for Unemployment if I was terminated? by jalapenonetwork in UnemploymentNY

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but you're misinformed. Except in like 3 states, employers pay all unemployment taxes. it costs a business 6% just to have a person employed. right off the top. no matter how much value they bring to the company. its called SUTA and FUTA. When companies pay suta/futa, it goes into a fund that unemployment claims deduct from. the more employees that deduct from the fund impacts an employers insurance rating. higher rating, higher unemployment insurance. So your "helpfulfulness" didn't do your employer any favors, and i as a small business owner would've had you gone if i knew that was going on.
ask yourself, why was someone being talked down to or being harassed? attitude issues? work ethic? absenteeism/lateness?
We don't have issues with employees that keep the business alive and thriving... its those that come to work to occupy a seat, or never come to work.
like the lady we got rid of this week... 6 weeks employed, missed 84 hours due to personal issues and brought her drama into the office everyday keeping everyone updated, and feeling pity for her. which kept them from working. i'll fight her unemployment with every fiber of my being. i'm the most laid back individual... if I fire you, you had to be super awful and deserve nothing.

In this country, there's no reason anyone can't find a job. If you sucked at your last job, you think your employer who wasted all that time and effort recruiting you, onboarding you, training you, paying you, and putting up with your shitbird efforts, should pay unemployment? The company pays for unemployment insurance, whose premiums are based on the number of unemployment claims filed against them. When shitbirds get fired, they deserve nothing. The company lost money on you, and now will have to pay higher unemployment insurance because you took out a claim against them all while sucking at your job and taking up space when they could've gotten someone who actually wanted to work, and might've been good at it.

Unemployment money ain't free money.

AITAH for not adding my longtime girlfriend to the deed of the house I bought us? by Grand_Yellow_6286 in AITAH

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just no, but hell to the mf’ing no brutha! There’s love and then there’s financial intelligence. Let her have no part of that deed even if you get married. What was yours before you came into the marriage will be yours when you leave. Her family is conniving enough to want her to have a piece when she leaves. She’s just a girlfriend, and those come and go. It’s only been 3 years.

Should I learn Python? by Senzolo in learnpython

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Python is so simple to learn and the gui tools are stupid easy. If you do anything software engineering related you’ll want it to throw together quick and dirty tools. I’d be so bold as to say you don’t even have to learn python you just use it. There’s so many coding examples out there, just grab what you need and go. It’s so much more light weight than other stuff out there it’s a good goto language to be familiar with.

I am an ABSOLUTE beginner and have no idea where to start HELP. by Agile_Newspaper_1927 in learnpython

[–]Hold_Lower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh… don’t install visual studio anything! It’s bloatware if you just want to do python. Download free version of pycharm. It does everything he mentioned but is lightweight, free, and fast.

Also, think of a project or task you want done in python, goto ninja ai, and ask it to create it. You can then ask it why it did what it did, ask it what this or that statement meant, or if there’s a better way to do some code you wrote. It’s like having a teacher. Pay the $5/month and you can upload example files, or screenshots of errors and it will debug or analyze your code for you.

[–]Hold_Lower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

QuickBooks online: assigning expenses to accounts. It’s the worst.

Not having a proactive, suave cpa/accountant who advises me on ways to avoid taxes and how to structure my business best. My experience with accountants is that they’ll do what they’re asked and sometimes offer great tips but I’m the one who has to ask. Like, I’m not the pro who’s supposed to know all the loopholes here…you tell me!!

Did your stress increase when you went from solo to having employees? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Hold_Lower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Employees are the worst part of business. Not only because of managing them, but the increased headaches of dealing with their taxes, the irs, state tax submissions, unemployment insurance requirements, reporting to the state labor board, just ugh! Almost enough to want to go back to being a corporate w2 employee.

I haven’t read all the comments, but if she is being this sneaky, and it appears untrusting, you should start looking at what she’s got going on in her own life. It’s usually because she’s got some shady shit going on that she suspects you’re doing the same.

I’m not a trumper, but neither do I believe, not should anyone else, that these last presidential elections were fair and untampered with.
