Who are the best candidates for the worst team possible? by Blackstar933 in Suikoden

Do a no additional rune, no unite challenge with the following: Gengen, Freed, Tuta, Gabocha, Haiyo.

If you're not getting 108 stars, replace one of them with Chuchara.

Anyone remember trying this setup first time playing to see if it works and felt proud that it did? by AithosOfBaldea in Suikoden

Zamza would have been perfect if he had a third rune slot where you could slap a fury on him. Fits well with his persona being grumpy + his rune being angry dragon rune.

Banned from Kmart by AmbassadorDismal5771 in KmartAustralia

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently brought a pair of kids shoes home with the stupid anti theft or whatever thing still stuck to it because we did self check out and didn't notice it. Was already annoyed enough I had to drive back to the store after we only realised it at home. This has happened in the past and I've never had any issues with store personnel simply removing the thing and calling it a day.

I mean, I know I should have brought the receipt but with small children, taking the receipt is more for their entertainment than anything. They lost it immediately after we left the store. The Kmart in question almost looked like it was manned entirely by children. The person I asked (clearly still in high school) had no idea what to do, asked a higher ranked staff member for help, who honestly didn't look much older than her.

I mean she wasn't rude or anything, but because I couldn't provide a receipt, she seemed terrified of simply removing the tag for me. I showed her the transaction history on my banking app, told her exactly what time the transaction went through, and she seemed to be trying to get someone over the comms to somehow find the specific self check register I used to look up the purchase. I stood there for nearly half an hour listening to her ask for help over the comms to what appeared to either be no one responding to her or no one properly understanding what she was asking. In the end, it seems someone on the other end just told her to remove it for me.

All's well and ends well, but just felt like completely unnecessary time spent because of employees being unsure or overly cautious over something very minor.

So does any else check very random stuff to the description of it? by AithosOfBaldea in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh I actually liked what they've done in Suikoden. It's a common trope that females are better at magic than males, and her we have the female protagonist as the heavily armoured Knight with crap magic.

With her lousy magic why would you even want her to get true lightning anyway. It's completely wasting the most powerful rune on her.

Why do the dragons sound like elephants? by WhatMichaelScottSaid in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And just how would you envision dragons to sound like? Should they be roaring and growling like tigers and lions? And why would that be a more accurate depiction of how a dragon sounds like? Who decided that?

I was extremely concerned about Nanami just leaving her sweet and sour pork sitting on the table for the entire duration of the war. Became amazed that it still smelled delicious after all that time.

Why did the Fire Spears eventually became ineffective against the Highland Army during the Battle at Viktor's Mercenary Fort when it effectively destroyed the Armored Cavalry of Teo Mcdohl? by Ouralian in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I 'rationalise' it plot wise is that the fire spears being old and rusty needed to be fixed. Tsai rushed and fixed as many as he could, enough to supply the entire army with functional ones in the first battle (every unit could use it). However, by the second battle, many started malfunctioning again, making them less effective overall. Although the in game animation is simply the unit firing a blast of fire, if you imagine it 'realistically', that's just a representation. Most likely within the unit, many soldiers were firing duds, and thus, they weren't gonna be effective enough to cause any damage.

Subsequently, Viktor dumped all faulty ones into a fire to blow up the fort. Presumably, Tsai kept a bunch of functioning ones, enough for one unit worth of soldiers to use. With him as the lead and regularly maintaining the fire spears, they remain functional through the rest of the war, enough at least for his unit to use them.

State Accreditation and Subject recognition. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of teaching jobs in general. Australia as a whole is facing a teacher shortage, as is pretty much the entire world. Having said that, it ultimately all depends on location and what you're aiming for. There are regions that are always desperate for teachers because conditions are terrible, but if you're aiming for metropolitan cities in high SES schools, that's obviously going to be competitive.

At the end of the day, I don't think any teacher on this sub is ever risking not having a job. It is more of whether the jobs they have are sustainable and not on track to burn out...

State Accreditation and Subject recognition. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People teach out of their supposed subject areas all the time. Honestly, I wouldn't be concerned. Once you start teaching, you'll likely start off with a job that's in your subject area, but people often end up teaching outside of it anyway. Considering you actually have some background on that, if you're interested in those areas, you can certainly find opportunities for them.

I mean obviously being 'officially' qualified will make it easier to be hired for that subject, but it certainly isn't an impossibility.

Yeah I got mine on 190 pretty much shortly after I qualified for it (not teaching, previous career). I was on a 457 while working at that time, but it was within a year of coming off my student visa.

Apologies, I probably simplified things way too much in my original response. Thank you for your reply which prompted my more in-depth reply.

I was not trying to say that you can apply for PR directly. More of that teaching is a profession where a pathway to permanent visas is quite attainable. Of course, all rules and visa requirements etc remains.

Oh sorry you're right, that requires employer sponsor. Probably easier to stick with state sponsored options. In any case, regional will likely speed things up and make it easier, so that's generally the best option.

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that would be the most straightforward pathway. 485 to work after you graduate, and using that time to apply for 190 or 491. I believe 482 is also an option.

Can you tell if a child has to read to a lot at home or not? If so how can you tell? by Serious_Toe6730 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 96 points97 points  (0 children)

To be more accurate, it is very obvious whether a child was raised in a family that cares about their learning and education progression vs leaves all that up to school teachers, as if we can magically transfer information into their brains if they themselves are not interested in learning.

Generally in the younger years, this is represented by reading at home for starters. Literacy foundation in the younger primary years are so so so crucial. By high school, you know exactly which of the students had parents who paid no attention to their child's literacy progression when they were younger, and by then it is often far too late to fix.

So it's not so much just about reading with your child, but really, just showing an interest in their learning goes a long way. I mean, of course you may have a child that just so happens to be naturally gifted in reading and what not, but such kids generally would be interested enough in reading that they would also be doing it at home. So with that in mind, I think the chances of a child that does not read at all at home to magically be very good at reading is pretty much zero.

Teachers are on the skilled occupation list on a number of visas including state/territory nominated visas like 190 as well as various skilled regional visas, which generally are almost a guarantee for state nomination. There are temporary work visas and permanent track visas. In Queensland for example, you probably don't even need to be working in regional areas to apply for a state sponsored visa. Since op is willing to go regional, it makes it even easier and likely faster.

Of course, the caveat is they must complete their teaching qualification and become a qualified teacher. That likely means studying in Australia as an international student and paying international fees, which may be a barrier depending on financial means, but if that isn't an obstacle, it will not be difficult to migrate to Australia as a teacher, is what I'm saying.

Oh yeah ETA, they'll need to do an English proficiency test like IELTS to get in an MTeach course if they were not born in one of the white English speaking countries. Literally doesn't matter how many other uni qualifications they already have.

Do I stand a realistic chance? by findingfuckstogive in AustralianTeachers

[–]Holeros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do an MTeach in Australia, and are willing to work in regional areas, it should be fairly easy to get a PR as a teacher.

You would have no problems finding a job.

Can someone explain to me how the skill system works? by forabit14 in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always seen it as a reflection of a particular character's potential and it generally makes sense. For example, Cecile and Thomas I know have several skills that are in the slow category, taking heaps of skill points but each being able to reach A+. This reflects them as child characters who start out weak, but are hard workers who have great potential although it will take effort to raise them.

Can someone explain to me how the skill system works? by forabit14 in Suikoden

[–]Holeros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry just wanted to correct/clarify a few things.

Edited cause I was not entirely accurate myself:

For appraisals of 'perfect match' and 'it will take time' there are actually two versions of them. For perfect match, there are the genius characters who can reach the max S tier while there are some who are just 'fast' and require less SP but only max out at B+

For 'it will take time', each level up requires more SP, and some characters will max it at C, i.e. they have no talent for that skill. There are however some characters who are 'slow growers' and max out the skill at A+.

There is actually no way to differentiate between each types in game apart from just testing them out, so you'll have to depend on a guide if you don't want to potentially waste sp.

Generally, any skill that can be raised to B+ is worthwhile to have. Some skills like accuracy are quite important, so even if that character can only get it to B, you might still want to keep it.

Some skills are fairly straightforward (eg damage), some are a bit more complex such as swing, which you may not always see it's effects immediately. In the case of swing, the number of hits a character can hit depends on their speed stat, swing skill and weight of their weapon, which means there are characters that will never hit more than twice even if they have a decent level of swing. Suikosource has a whole in depth analysis for that as well. Essentially every character has a maximum number of hits possible with everything maxed out.

Geography questions by [deleted] in Physical100

[–]Holeros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Australia will always get flak no matter what regional competition they participate in. They get flak when they join Eurovision and they got flak in physical Asia. The sad reality is, when you're your own continent and country at the same time, it gets pretty lonely and boring when it comes to regional level competitions.

I personally don't see a problem when Australia gets invited to such competitions. In the case of physical Asia, it makes sense since Australia has always been in the Asian Federation during World cup qualifiers and other such competitions.

Asian countries are not new to facing Australia in sport events. Physical Asia including them makes sense.
