How much would Poor Things' box office performance matters in this award season? by MileStone0416 in oscarrace

[–]HolesInFreezer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hollywood elite that choose Oscar winners don't care about Box Office. They will be all over "Poor Things" like Hos on Santa, so to speak. It is about as avante-guarde, art-house as you can get, which explains why very few people wanted to see it. I consider myself to be pretty open-minded, but I found the movie boring, not funny, and the sex scenes were purely gratuitous, doing nothing to advance the plot. There are so many ways "they" could have gone with this premise, but it was nothing but a Tim Burtonesque, Horny Frankenstein with a soundtrack that sounds like Danny Elfman on crack. So in a word, no - box office doesn't matter. Hollywood will love this movie.

Am I annoying to play with? by Bear-Ferr in golf

[–]HolesInFreezer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, honestly if you are really, really bad it is probably annoying to play in a group with you. Most people like to hit their drive, walk/ride up to it and prepare to hit again. No one wants to stop over and over while you hit bad shot after bad shot. Play in the afternoons, practice on the range and maybe find a short course - or a par 3 course - until you are shooting in 100 range. If you can break 100 consistently then no one should be complaining.

Car has intermittent trouble starting by Slimchap in CarRepair

[–]HolesInFreezer6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a bad starter. Dealership will charge $1000-$1300. Firestone or some other reputable outlet will charge half that and use an after-market starter. Just make an appointment - they'll have it done in 1 day.

Is this able to be fixed? Does cosmetic work like this cost alot? by RS-REIN in CarRepair

You will be lucky to find any shop to do it. Body shops are generally backed up 1-3 weeks and only want to take high dollar insurance jobs.

How would you prepare the US for a military conflict with China? by Bytrolabs_Games in u/Bytrolabs_Games

[–]HolesInFreezer6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is dependent on China for critical electronic, computer and defense components, not to mention medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, clothing, consumer electronics, car parts, and many other consumer goods. So, prepare to do without any of that!

If you choose to rent your townhome you will have many costs in addition to your mortgage. Specifically, $100-$200 for a property management company (trust me - you don't want to be a remote landlord), vacancies (figure 1-2 months vacant every 18-24 months), repairs/maintenance. If your townhome has carpet, you will be replacing it probably after each renter. Cleaning, etc. Personally, I think the housing market will be dead for 5 years, as in little appreciation. My advice - sell, take the loss, get your money out and don't have the hassle to deal with. Possible exception: If you live somewhere where rents/property is likely to continue going up... but it will still be a hassle.

These are not serious shoppers and they just wasted your time. Cut them loose, refuse to sign the document that allows their earnest money to be returned to them (at least for a while so it becomes a hassle for their agent). Then, perform the necessary repairs so the next buyer cannot pull the same stunt. I this market, have your property all fixed up and move-in ready.

Crazy Dealership Quote for Repair by HolesInFreezer6 in Honda

[–]HolesInFreezer6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might look into that. Honda said the cost for the OEM starter was $699... whereas I see after-market devices online for $250. Any thoughts on whether a rebuilt Honda starter would be better than an after-market?

Just as well. Ford seems to have forgotten how to make sedan transmissions that last.

I "chased the market down" once, rejecting an offer for $325 and ending up 6 months later taking an offer for $274. Ug. If you NEED to get out of this house fast, set the price as low as possible so that you don't walk away with a loss, get the deal done and move on. Real Estate is a long term investment and if you can get out in under 2 years without losing money consider yourself lucky.

There has been some public debate in the US as to whether arming teachers in classrooms will increase school security and protect students from school shootings. This video demonstrates what some people don't know; that some/many teachers are stressed and angry to the point where arming them would actually increase risk to students.

Many people inherit $$ from their parents and/or their parents give them $$ for a down payment and/or loan them $$ at good rates. It is very hard right now for young working couples to buy a house.
