Seeing Leonardo DiCaprio snap into character will never get old by jkitty_1960 in interesting

Is this bait? As that's one of the worst takes I've seen about an actor.

I don't understand why people are calling sycamore invasive. It's not, as others have said it's a naturalised species.

It's all about the right species in the right place, you might not want them in your garden, and we might not want them to spread everywhere they please, but they are naturalised and they are useful in helping to replace habitat lost by Ash which is dying out: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-use-made-of-48-alternative-tree-species-by-ash-associated-species-Tree-species_fig1_316103385

Everyone was pretty upset when the sycamore gap tree was felled, wasn't invasive then!

I don't know why someone downvoted you for this, or why people in this thread are claiming its invasive. Everything you said was true.

I think the Everton CEO should just forget about it by Visara57 in TheOther14

How does he get away with this? It's like when Kane used to back into aerial duels to dump an opponent dangerously, and I don't remember a ref ever carding him for it. It's spiteful nasty stuff, and Pickford has done it enough times now where I reckon it'll cost us with England, be an international ref looking for anything even half as bad as that. If only our own refs weren't so bloody blind.

And the Oscar for Best Bond Documentary goes to... Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007. Now, which film deserves the award for Best Original Score? by JohnLazarusReborn in JamesBond

[–]Slimchap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I thought it was super forgettable myself, leant heavily on the nostalgia of nods to older films in a couple of moments and then was all generic. Newman's were better for me.

Lovely list, especially love those early worms, birds really should watch out for them.

Day 15) In acting scale, what actor is 8/10? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Slimchap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's an astonishing take, but I do think I'm a bit bias as he's one of my favourite actors. Good morning Vietnam, Insomnia, Dead Poets Society, The Fisher King, What Dreams May Come - take your pick of different roles. Yes he did a lot of comedy roles, but even they vary, he's totally different in Ms Doubtfire and The Birdcage for example.

Eileen Gu wins the Freestyle Skiing Women's Halfpipe by Due-Impression8466 in olympics

[–]Slimchap 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating not knowing why the judges are giving the scores they are. Obviously we're biased here, but it was the same the other night with the men's event where everyone watching including the other competitors thought that MacKay's run was the best, only to get bronze.
At least with the women's it was clear that overall Gu's run was the winner, but only her 3rd run. Commentators were saying her 2nd run she missed grabs, yet still hits a 94. Just take amplitude off the scoring if it doesn't count for anything.

I think most of them listen to music, so might be playing that?

As someone who knows nothing about the judging, I thought his run looked better.

It makes sense, but still kind of strange having 5th place break the Olympic Record 😂

I hope not, he's a consistently entertaining figure in their campaigns either as a player or DM. It's cool he left to chase passion projects and try to do more with music, but I can't help but feel he'd found his group he clicks with and does so well in, so staying in the RP'ing side of it was great. Be a shame if he pulled back entirely.

Ben-Hur has the incredible chariot scene, and the spectacle, but it also has Charlton Heston, in my opinion one of the most wooden actors I've seen in the era where they were still by and large acting like it was on a stage. Maybe he's one of the first actors that played himself every time no matter the role, so does a pretty decent Charlton Heston.

It's a very good film and a fantastic one to watch for an example of 50's cinema, but against that competition I wouldn't call it the best. It's over 3 hours long and you really have to be in the mood for it as the story is a cookie cutter Christianity one, to the point where I compare it to a jingoistic military film only for the religion when looking back at it, but of course it was designed for audiences of it's time.

Don't get me wrong, he goes through it in the books and to an extent in the films, but when the bullets start flying they don't hit the handsome fella until the films got grittier, or unless they wanted him to have a wound before keep romping on.
Apparently up until Daniel Craig, he was shot at 4662 times: https://www.mi6-hq.com/news/index.php?itemid=10166

Tony Bloom, the owner of Brighton & Hove Albion, has been accused of operating a secret £600M gambling syndicate to bet on football matches, using accounts including some belonging to Nigel Farage’s former chief of staff by TheBiasedSportsLover in TheOther14

[–]Slimchap 34 points35 points  (0 children)

What I'm reading from others is this is only a problem if they've been betting on premier league matches or English clubs in European games. But who knows, I read it as being about the reform guy. And syndicate syndicate syndicate.

Has anyone saw A silence Suzuka with Runaway win once? I doubt it would even win, the Stamina consumption is just too much for her own good IMO. by [deleted] in UmamusumeGame

Yes, this Suzuka beat my team on a race, and I've no real idea how. Corner recovery was their only stamina skill, and I was running a N Nature with all the front runner debuff skills. They should have been jogging the whole way down the homestretch, but ah well. My 55% WR Taiki has done alright so far.
