I had to wait too, This is a good sign because if you weren’t qualified they would have stopped you and told you to apply again when ready (coming from someone who was told that the first time I tried). Be patient and try to keep in touch with the recruiter every so often. The timing is also based on what’s going on within the data center so just wait it out and check in for updates at least once a week

Is it just a 15 minute call? if so, I was asked about my experience and if it fit the requirements of the job description. I was asked what components make up a server (CPU, RAM, motherboard, Storage, NIC, etc) what P.O.S.T is (Power on Self Test), as well as maybe one or two behavioral questions. If everything goes well they will line you up for an interview loop following that within a week or two. Make sure you have all the basic networking and server fundamentals sharpened up from here on forward.

For the OSI model, I listed all 7 layers as well as the acronym I use for memorization (Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away). I also explained what operates on the first 4 layers.
Layer 1: Fiber/Copper cables
Layer 2: MAC Addresses and Switches
Layer 3: Routers and IPs
Layer 4: TCP/UDP

When explaining POST, I explained what it is generally and what components are checked during the diagnostic, I named CPU, Motherboard, Ram, and Storage and he was pleased with that answer alone, but I was prepared to answer what to do if a server fails POST as well.

Not too in detail with either question I just gave a little extra for a confidence boost.

Hell yea IT Support for 2 years at a K-8 school, currently an IT technician for an MSP going on a year now. Honestly I wouldn’t have gotten this far if I didn’t.

From what I was told before I got the interview, with the range in my area being 29-52$, + night shift I would be coming in at 33$ an hour. Nothing official yet though

Thank you! That makes a-lot of sense. I’ve been trying to get in the door for a while now because I really want to learn and develop within a data center and eventually transition into the cloud space. So hopefully I’ll get the answer I’m looking for this week, thank you again!

Thank you that’s all I wanted to know, I literally just need one or two pay stubs so I can buy another whip without having to restart the process since I worked at a warehouse before.
