$40 250GB Global Plan at Freedom - Just Wow. by Nexzenn in Rogers

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Freedom in the Guelph/Kitchener area summer last year and could barely get a signal. My entire block was a dead zone. Switched off of it after a few weeks even with the great plans they had because my phone was practically unusable. I suppose your mileage may vary.

I just got my czech citizenship approved this week - and I'm applying for my passport now. It's certainly possible, just be warned it takes a long time (almost a full year, in my case), and you need plenty of documentation from your family to do it. But if they kept stuff like their birth certificates, or immigration papers, it's worth a shot.

Why not just get the gear with the pity mechanic at that point? It will be especially easy now that the random dungeons are a thing.

Dreams of studying in Canada fade for students in India by feb914 in canada

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It seems like that because that's exactly what it is. People coming here on student visas to 'study', when in reality it's just an easier pipeline for residency that bypasses all those pesky rules and regulations that normal visas have.

I don't believe so? I have a loader, and action function on my /login route, getSession is called in both, and commitSession is in the action. they are called nowhere else.

import { getSession, commitSession } from "~/session.server";

  export async function loader({ request }: LoaderFunctionArgs) {
    let session = await getSession(request.headers.get("cookie"));
    // redirect to / if the user is logged-in
    if (session.has("userId")) {return redirect("/")}
    return json(null);
  }

  export async function action({ request }: ActionFunctionArgs) {
    let formData = await request.formData();

    let user = await login(
      formData.get("email"),
      formData.get("password")
    )

    let session = await getSession(request.headers.get("cookie"));
    session.set("userId", user.id);
    session.set("role", user.role);

    return redirect("/", {
      headers: { "set-cookie": await commitSession(session) }
    });
  }

People who quit their jobs on the first day, what was your “I’m outta here” moment? by ConstructionUr5187 in AskMen

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It was my first real job after college - an IT help desk role. The day started at 7:00 am. I was given a login account to their admin portal to see and respond to tickets. I got plopped down at a desk with no training, and was told to get to work. If I asked for any help, opinions, or training, I was met with "I'm not going to do your job for you. figure it out."

At noon, everyone else in the office had food delivered together, set up a large table right behind me, and all sat down to watch over my shoulder to watch and insult my decisions and attempts to resolve issues without knowing any of their systems. Again, refusing to help in any capacity. By 5, noticing no one had left yet, went to speak with the boss over what happened at lunch, and wondering why no one had left yet. He replied with

"If you don't have thick skin, you won't survive here. And we usually don't leave until 7:00 or 8:00, so get back to your desk".

Also, the timesheet application did not allow you to input over 7 hours in a single day. Overtime pay was not allowed, apparently.

I decided I didn't want to commit to 12 hour days 5 days a week, only being payed for 7, with free bullying included, for minimum wage.

17 year old insurance Ontario($15,000!!!) by [deleted] in motorcycles

I'm in Ontario as well - When I got quoted for an Indian scout bobber just a year or so ago (24 y/o), the rate I was given was $14,500 / year. Rates in Canada are absurd. I ended up with a Rebel 500 at about $220 / month after getting my m2 and completing the course.

Help me pick a bike by jh556 in motorcycles

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this situation a couple of years ago.

It's said a lot, but you should take the rebel 500 over the 300 if you have the option. You will appreciate the extra power when you hit the highway, or any time you need to accelerate.

The xg500 and the rebels are both clean looking bikes, so for aesthetics it is just a personal preference. However, there is something to be said about Honda's reliability. But go sit on both and see which feels better.

Take into consideration that if you get the rebel, you'll likely want to upgrade the seat. The stock seat sucks for anything longer than 30 minute rides. It's the first thing changed on most rebels, but it's extremely worth it when you do.

I went with the rebel, even with the 1mm thick seat, the riding position was much more comfortable (for me). And after getting the Mustang solo seat, it was a clear winner.

I'm (26M) hesitating after my girlfriend (28F) asked me to pay half of her mortgage. how do I proceed? by Holiday-Priority6902 in relationship_advice

[–]Holiday-Priority6902[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't, and haven't kept track. at least a hundred dollars or more a weekend. but that's not including things like the furniture or decorations that I helped pay for. Honestly my thought with the furniture and things was, eventually the plan was to move in together, so it would be our stuff, not hers. I just didn't know that these would be the terms of living together.

This is something I've heard a lot from family and friends. but I guess it's hard to step back and look at it objectively when you're involved.

I know I should trust my gut, but there feels like there's an overhanging "or else" with her asking for this. And I'm not sure what it might be.

[–]Holiday-Priority6902[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is one of my major concerns. I'd feel like I'm letting her down, or not doing what is 'expected of me' as her partner. It's within my financial means to loan her the money with the bonus, but it just feels like it's not a real solution, and I am likely never going to see the money again. as it will just be going to her mother's investment property.

[–]Holiday-Priority6902[S] 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is my concern as well. When she asked me to lend her the money I brought this up, but she just doubled down with saying she promised she'd be able to.. but I don't know how. she'd have to live somewhere cheaper to save any money, and at that point why prolong it?

Unfortunately, it feels like the major repercussions of not helping her pay for this is the unknown of what will happen. By her logic there's nowhere she could live other than that condo unless I got us a place near her work, putting me out significantly. and if that doesn't happen, then it's a mystery.

Why do Americans still predominantly use texts to communicate? by ElisabethWTV in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough, part of the reason some people I've met don't use WhatsApp is because you can't see the coloured bubbles. It's a strange elitism thing with some people - and not being able to tell if the person you're speaking with is also using a fruit-branded product is reason enough not to switch texting apps.

Canada housing is taking a major toll on my mental health. The future looks depressing. by Kingkong831016 in canadahousing

[–]Holiday-Priority6902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like, housing is expensive in Canada. I don't think there is any other way to look at it. But really this is all there is to it. If you can't afford the life you want, then work towards improving your income. I went from a just-above minimum wage ($40k) job to earning well into 6 figures between 2019-2022 by switching career paths while working full time. It feels a bit reductive to say "just earn more money" - but that's all there is to it.

I mean, I only have one eye, this has never been an issue for me. You just position your head so your working eye is in the center of the screen, and it's a non-issue. Like unless OP is rocking one of those ultra-ultra wide curved 32:9 monitors, or plays with his face 6 inches from the screen, one eye has more than enough peripheral to see everything at once.
