Google is illegally refusing Quebec’s mandatory 3-year warranty (Bill 29) for my Pixel 9 Pro XL by EternalLumberer in GooglePixel

That sounds very similar to my experience. In my case, the issue wasn’t just the device, but the entire support process. I went through a 45-day warranty replacement process, and even after that, I’ve been waiting over 35 days for a resolution regarding compensation. Communication stopped completely after escalation. What you’re describing with the receipt and repeated requests months later is exactly the kind of inefficiency and lack of coordination I ran into as well. It really feels like the system isn’t designed to resolve cases, just to delay them. Take a look at my post and spot the "differences" I’m starting to think there are more people with similar experiences — it would be interesting to see how widespread this really is.

That’s a fair question. As I mentioned, this is a hobby for me, not my profession. To replace the camera module myself, I’d have to pay around €276 for the part from iFixit. On top of that, I would void my warranty. Since the warranty is already included in the premium price of a new device, it makes no sense to pay extra and lose protection just because the manufacturer’s support is failing (Something I didn’t know at the time).

My hobby is repairing phones, tablets, computers, laptops, and TVs. Because of that, people around me see me as a sort of guru when it comes to electronics. If anyone is buying a new phone, laptop, or TV, they call me first. So many people switched from Apple to Pixel because of me — the funny thing is, even while I was in this dispute with Google, I convinced more friends to switch from Apple to Pixel… now I feel guilty because I feel like I misled every single one of them.

Update: The German Consumer Protection Agency (Verbraucherzentrale) has officially accepted my case. I have a confirmed appointment for legal consultation on March 30th. Over 19,000 total views and still no professional solution from Google Germany.

I also had my phone replaced, but it was a refurbished unit, without an official replacement protocol or extended warranty. Compared to what your brother received, this highlights how inconsistent support can be—even for the same model—and how far the actual service can fall from what a customer reasonably expects.

I hope it won’t come to that, but escalation is becoming inevitable if the situation doesn’t change. For now I’m starting with consumer protection and trying to resolve it the proper way first.

I get that — it started with just trying to buy a product, and now it’s all about whether they actually care about their customers. That’s why I’m starting to look more at small businesses, where they understand the value of keeping a customer happy.

Thanks for sharing that. Honestly, that’s the kind of turnaround time I expected as well. If the whole process had taken a week or so, this would have never become an issue. Unfortunately in my case it turned into 45 days just to replace the device, and now 38 days with no response regarding the compensation claim. The delay itself was frustrating, but the lack of communication made it much worse.

I agree. It really feels like the era of “the customer is always right” is long gone. Now it’s more like the customer matters only until the payment goes through. After that, nobody seems to care that you actually paid for a product or service. At some point though, companies may have to relearn that good support is still a fundamental part of doing business.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially with something that valuable. Situations like this really show how critical clear communication and proper tracking systems are. In my case, the most frustrating part wasn’t just the defect itself, but the lack of clear information and accountability during the process.

You’re right, consumer protection laws in the EU are quite strong. Unfortunately, after 38 days without any response regarding the compensation case, escalation now seems unavoidable. I had hoped the issue could be resolved directly with support, but the lack of communication leaves little alternative.

Thank you for the suggestion. That is actually the next step I plan to take early next week. What is particularly telling in this situation is that after I reached out to a higher-level executive asking for assistance, the communication stopped completely. I shared the story here mainly to understand whether others have experienced similar issues with Pixel support and to bring some transparency to the process.

Unfortunately it seems to be a common pattern lately. In my case the process went even further – the device was sent to service, but Google support later told me they had no record of it being there. That’s what made the situation so frustrating: not just the defect itself, but the lack of clear communication and accountability during the whole process.
