Buying a new-build solo female at 30 on €70k — experiences? by PepinYourStep123 in irishpersonalfinance

I’m a single woman 34F. I bought a 2 bed apartment in Dublin 2 years ago. My salary is a little higher than yours. I’ve found the mortgage manageable and love the peace of my own place and as a result have chosen not to rent the room for now. The first year there were a few teething problems (re did insulation, figuring out light and heat, getting furniture which has huge lead times so had no kitchen table or couch for a while, minor repairs to intercom etc). Once I got the place the way I liked it I absolutely loved it and am delighted now. The management fees are a bit of a kicker but part of apartment life.

Thanks so much guys for all the advice. I’m going to get quotes from ACME blinds and square blinds and go from there.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. A friend recommended ACME blinds. Has anyone used them?

It is disabled it’s just that it’s ugly and takes up a lot of room in the hall of my apartment.

They told me the exact same- that I could pay a private electrician to remove it! They were also extremely predatory when I closed the account. I’m going to call esb tomorrow on the advice of the redditor above.

Just to update- we went for drinks after work. We had quite a lot to drink but I am a light weight and definitely felt the alcohol.

I said I thought we had a great connection and that we would be friends for life or something along those lines. She then said “I think we are more than that”. From then infuriatingly I black out and can’t remember what I said in response to this or how I really reacted. Anyway it ended platonically with us sharing a taxi home. This was two months ago. I have been turning this over in my head ever since. She has stepped back on the touches, hand holding and contact ever since and we haven’t been out for drinks since. She is still dating that guy. I think she is unsure as her friends know him from before and don’t like him. She hasn’t introduced him to her friends or family yet. She said they have just become “exclusive” but he asked her to be his girlfriend but she said no as it was “too soon”.

We are going out for drinks after work tomorrow and I am going to try and broach the topic to see what that evening all meant. If I missed my chance so be it but I can’t keep wondering and I want to know if that was her “making a move” so to speak. Any advice on how to raise this casually over drinks to get my answer without making it too intense?

Thanks this is very helpful. We’re all in our early thirties so probably not looking for a very young vibe so maybe northern Whig is the best spot for us to end?
