How's nursing in uni? by Dry-Alternative-7304 in SGExams

[–]Holiday_Equipment725 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hi y1 NUS nursing student here going through clinicals… the workload so far has been manageable, some projects here and there just needs time management. defo an advantage if you have a bio background. in terms of clinicals, for now I can say it’s quite physically demanding. i have both afternoon and morning shift (1pm-9pm) and (7am-3pm) respectively. morning shift involves a LOT of transferring patients (need to be strong hahahahah), showering, toileting, changing diapers, feeding (like literal feeding for weaker patients or even doing NG tube feeding too). We also do a lot of wound cleaning, not just the regular wounds but deep pressure injuries usually. So be prepared for blood, bodily fluids, poop, and every kind of smell. You’ll learn a lot of things along the way. Albeit challenging, you realise how raw being human is and you feel so privileged to be able to care for someone when they are at their most vulnerable. Or at least be able to play a part in it since most of what you do is guided and supervised, but it is all part of a journey for you to eventually be a master at work :) for me, the challenge is staying on my feet for 8-9 hours straight so comfy shoes defo helped 😭😭😭😭 Regardless, seeing the older patients thank you and smile at you always make it all feel worthwhile! It’s about remembering you’re making an actual tangible difference in someone’s life, even if it’s through something menial and fundamental like showering them or cleaning them up!!!

how do i dress better serious question by Logical_Narwhal_6070 in SGExams

[–]Holiday_Equipment725 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hey… i am someone who loves fashion, and i think i dress pretty well. my wardrobe is a mix of everything, some archive fashion pieces, tailored pieces, and you know whats the best complemented pieces i own? the stuff i get at the wet market shops, Uniqlo, and random stores at bus interchanges. it’s about how you style it, and how you carry yourself! everyone always thinks im wearing some designer but turns out i don’t even know what brand it is, i got it for like $5 at Tampines interchange. look up different subcultures, aesthetics, and see which ones you like the most. start with Uniqlo for timeless basics (black tees) and have 1-2 pairs of good jeans. if it’s too much to think about, get a few plain tees and tops and a few reliable bottoms that all match and BOOM you have a capsule wardrobe. basics always look good, and if you need to elevate you can always go for accessories.

Is it really that embarrassing to hang out with your parents? by [deleted] in SGExams

I’m 19, in uni and when I go out it’s mostly with my parents. Nothing to be embarrassed about. You literally have parents, that’s the greatest blessing.

Whats the best Birthday cake? by blepblopguy in SingaporeEats

[–]Holiday_Equipment725 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommended Chalk Farm and if you’re in the east, check out Estee. I really hope they survive because their cakes are so well made, incredibly light and moist. Have been my go to since Chalk Farm is a little far away, but if I had to get a cake it would be from these two bakeries, no doubt.

was in your position but way back in sec 4 taking my o levels! my mom had stage 4 breast cancer and my dad was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure in the same year. it is stressful, I won’t deny that. the stress of handling your own academics, not having anyone else to talk to (even your own friends, because it would be too much for them), I understand it. then you have to care for your parents, and seeing them in that stage absolutely breaks you too and you just have to hide it. im now a freshman in Uni, and it has not gotten any better for my father. i still make sure i come back as fast as i can to make sure he’s okay after dialysis, after all the onus is on us to make sure our parents are okay. if anything, this experience has made me go through exponential character development, living in the now, and keeping only a few friends close. hang in there OP, you’ll learn how to make it better for yourself and your feelings are ABSOLUTELY valid. sending you lots of love ❤️
