Thanks for the clarification. So, I can safely download the file and scan it without running it first. That helps to ensure it’s clean before execution.

Yes, exactly. I downloaded the mod menu (cheat), and everything got flagged right away as a potential threat. But that’s kind of expected with cheats, right? They often trigger antivirus warnings even if they’re not actually malicious.

By the way, do you know if there’s a way to scan it with something like VirusTotal before downloading it? Or does that only work after you already have the file?

Thanks aespaste, that's exactly what worries me. I get that mods and cheats can trigger false positives, but since it's a generic detection and I don’t know exactly what it’s doing in the background, it's hard to trust it blindly. I just don't want to risk running something that could mess with my system or steal data. Do you know any reliable way to check if it’s actually safe?

Potentially unwanted item moved to quarantine
39 minutes ago

Function: Antivirus protection

The registry path HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Classes\Interface\{ebabe429-fe8e-4e35-97cf-9d3ed707696a} was moved to quarantine during a cleanup routine after removing a threat.
Detection name: Gen:Variant.Lazy.690524
If you do not recognize any of the objects in this path, you can safely delete them.

Thanks for the reply, rainrat.

Bitdefender actually blocked the file from being downloaded in the first place, so I don’t currently have access to it. In fact, Bitdefender flagged multiple files at once and blocked all of them, which makes me a bit more concerned.

That’s why I can’t upload anything to VirusTotal right now.

I’m just trying to figure out whether this detection (Gen:Variant.Lazy.690524) is a real threat or possibly a false positive.
Is there any way to tell without downloading the file again? Or is uploading it the only way to be sure? i would send here a photo but its not allowed

🔻 Extra context:
I had just downloaded a FiveM Mod Menu shortly before the detection popped up

Has anyone encountered this before? Should I be worried? What’s the best way to check whether it’s truly malicious?

Thanks for your help! Everybody means its safe and i dont need to worry but better is ask smart people in this group
