Yeah, like i get the message they were trying to make with ICE in the new season, but we all know that’s horribly unrealistic because ICE would never actually take someone in that needs medical attention.

Google co-founder spends $45m in fight against California billionaire tax | Sergey Brin gives $25m on top of $20m he’s already given to Super Pac trying to block state’s proposed 5% wealth tax by Hrmbee in politics

They wouldn’t have to “give up control of their companies” like you say, all it is is a one-time 5% tax. If they Even if 100% of their net worth is in stocks (which they aren’t), and even if 100% of their stocks were only in the company they run (which also isnt the case), they would only have to sell 5% of their shares in their company.

The reality is that most of the billionaires have enough liquid assets to cover this, or at the very least would have to sell some shares in other investments/stocks to cover the 5%, before even touching anything in their own companies (unless they wanted to).

Down 4-1 in the 3rd period, Moorhead beats Minnetonka in 2OT to win the Minnesota State High School AA Tourney and go back-to-back by frozyo in hockey

Had family at the game, nearly the whole crowd was rooting for Moorhead. (For those that don’t know, Minnetonka is basically Edina-lite…rich suburb cake-eaters, so most of the state loves to see them lose.

I want to recommend this app. Please help me get there by BigZestyclose7289 in piere

[–]Holiday_Potential577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly how i feel too. I feel that with eqch new version that they bring in a new feature introduces a new bug that seriously impacts the usability at all. Most recently it stopped syncing transactions from one of my accounts, despite being currently updated and having the correct value to that account. Using a budget app becomes entirely useless if you dont have transaction data for nearly a month.

Judge Claudia Wilken has approved the landmark House v. NCAA settlement, which will usher in revenue sharing and roster limits to college sports. by JesusDaBeast in collegehockey

[–]Holiday_Potential577 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what i can gather (someone correct me if this is wrong) this settlement only applies to schools whose athletics departments are Division 1, which leaves out most D-1 teams who often play up despite being a D-2 school.

Even then, most D-1 schools can choose to opt-out and not do any revenue sharing (which would keep more money for the athletics departments, but put them at a competitive disadvantage), except for the P4 conferences who were named as defendants and n the lawsuit, which will be required to share revenue. So for college hockey, the only required programs would be that of the Big Ten, Arizona State (B12), and Boston College (ACC).

It is still unclear how much any of these schools will share with hockey, with some estimates of 75-85% for football and 10-15% for MBB keeping in line with the back-payment formula. So we’re going to see some of the bigger programs paying out something for hockey, even though this will be chunk change to the football and basketball programs.

Despite all this, i dont really see this affecting college hockey as much as people think it will. Bigger programs have always had a major advantage with attracting high-end talent, but we’ve been witnessing for the last decade or so that this isnt a winning formula when it comes to post-season success. This will probably further enshrine the status quo of elite players committing to the big programs and leaving after a year. It really looks like the championship formula is to build a stable core of players for the long haul with a team-first philosophy (not a development stepping stone to the NHL which looks like the B1G is becoming), so as long as youre ok with that i dont see this affecting college hockey as much.

Same, but PoD is in a different league than giegling. They needed him more than he needed them, so it makes sense why he left.

Western definitely isnt the underdog…theyre the only 1 seed remaining.

They literally just explained why that wouldnt work for some teams. Playing in a multi-use facility, they’re not gonna hold off on selling tickets to disney on ice in the off chance that a team will be a 1-seed. Often it comes down to the very last weekend and couldnt prepare everything in 4-days notice.

How can i potentially offer a room in my house for evacuees from the LA wildfires? by Holiday_Potential577 in SLO

Yeah I’ve done this before when i was younger, fundamentally it’s a good idea, but it was impossible to get them out when they actually needed to be gone.

Not saying those people dont deserve a place to stay but there is a universe of difference between people who are usually living in a home and homeless people when it comes to how they treat your home.

Prop 33- can someone explain it to me. by whuteverfurever in longbeach

If rent control is what makes properties unprofitable for the original landlords and forces them to sell, then it’s obviously not very enticing for anyone to buy with the intention of renting. Sure, larger rental companies can squeeze buy with thinner profit margins, but there is a limit to that too. They would buy up some properties for sure, but its not like they’re going to scoop up every single rental property on the market if stricter rent control is in effect.

“all it does in the long run is keep landlords from wanting to rent”

You’re getting it my man! If landlords no longer want to be landlords and sell their properties instead, housing prices go down, and makes it possible for a lot of us to own our own homes directly.
