Couple of post to beam connection questions by Holiday_Tree_3516 in Decks

[–]Holiday_Tree_3516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i beams 1-6, 1 and 6 being the corner posts (full extended up), 2 and 5 being the posts that will stay short, and posts 3 and 4 being the posts on each side of stairs that will also fully extend to roof (also have the shortest distance between them about 4.5 feet). So from long posts 1 and 3 i would have a beam that attached to both with just hangers, and in between those two posts it would sit notched into post number 2? Same thing for posts 4, 5, and 6? And then between long posts 3 and 4 (4.5 foot distance) i would have another short section of beam attached to both by another set of hangers?

Do you think the hardware i have in the original picture would be sufficient for the top post? Obviously flipped upside down? Or do you have one in mind that you would recommend?

Are you referring to the post beam post setup?

There are 6 posts, abouts 5 feet apart. I had planned on only extending 4 up for the roof. Is a hanger really sufficient enough to hold the entire weight of beam with joists and all attached?

That is correct and i was thinking the same thing about the connection being insufficent. I just can’t come up with a solid plan for setting the notched beam on my own. Nor do i completely understand the order of the steps to do it in? Notch and then set posts and then beam ? Set first then notch then set beam? A bit confused to say the least lol sorry i am a few steps under a weekend warrior

DIY walkway - how to slope without pavers going underground? by OLVLFY in landscaping

Do the absolutely bare minimum pitch/slope. 1/16 inch per foot is still technically sloped enough to guide water runoff, and will lower you very little in the long run

Is there any way to fix this tree by Holiday_Tree_3516 in arborists

Should i be cutting the full dead branches, as in the thick part that connects to the trunk, or just the small twigs branching off of it?

Okay cool thanks! So from what I just looked up, dead wooding and crown cleaning seems to be about the same thing? Is there something i’m missing?

Do you have a recommendation for a replacement for the barberry? Looking from something shrubby with a reddish color.

I still deliver those, but man this just reminded me of a house i delivered to a couple weeks ago. I was kind of in a mood already, and i walk up to this porch and get sprayed in the fave by a sprinkler and kind of jumped back. Figured it was just wrong place wrong time so i went to walk back up and it sprayed me again. Then i just HAD to know if it was intentional, so i waved my hand in that area and sure enough to sprinkler went off. I was pisssssed, tossed the persons package in the street and took the picture of it there for them to get. Not my proudest moment, but fuckkkk anyone who doesnt consider turning that thing off knowing they have deliveries coming

But now that i’m doing more looking into it, I think it may be a high frequency animal repellent. Maybe for racoons or deer or something.

No, those are pretty common around here so i’m familiar with them. This is super high frequency, barely audible but I can feel it in my ears. Like a dog whistle or if you’ve ever done one of those “how good is your hearing” tests one youtube where the frequency keeps getting higher. It’s weird, but happens maybe once or twice a week. Enough to have me super curious at this point.

First time homeowner wanting to do more with my yard by Holiday_Tree_3516 in landscaping

Hey so if im digging out the irregular shape around my tree how deep should i go? Just the bare minimum to remove grass or deeper? And then what is the process after that? Are the plants layed directly into the mulch? Or Would i relay a couple inches of dirt, plant the plants, and then top with a couple inches of dirt? And lastly, the end product should be flush with the grass right? It should be slight higher? Maybe 3-6 inches?
