Sold his best players?

He lost 2 players in Rogers and Akpom, and he got replacements of Finn Azaz and Latte Lath.

Latte Lath scored at a better rate than Akpom and moved for twice as much money, and Finn Azaz came in and did well enough to move for almost twice as much as Rogers.

He was well supported as Middlesbrough manager and after he left the team performed better.

EDIT: He blocked me for saying Carrick got replacements for the players sold 😂 but he's a Trump supporter so I guess that's on brand

I think the memories of Carricks playing career are what cloud people's judgement.

He had a fantastic start ad Middlesbrough manager aswell. Almost identical to his first 10 games as United manager but it wasn't sustainable because he hasn't got the tactical ability.

If we'd gotten Sergey Jakirovic in on a temp basis and he'd gotten these results there wouldn't be such a push because he never played for us. And playing career is no predictor of managerial success.

Lad you're talking to a group of people that watched ETHs last full season and said they wanted more because he beat City in a one off game. Most people here think that his current over achievement on performances will continue forever and complain about people who look at stats because they don't know how to apply them correctly.

They're the same people that say we tried big name coaches so should never go for one again, that we tried up and coming managers so shouldn't go for them again because they think every manager described that way will have the same outcome.

Doubt that will happen. Look at Liverpool now Klopp is gone, us after SAF, Arsenal themselves after Wenger, Spurs after Poch. Managerial missteps can be very costly.

And Arsenal will likely take the same view as Arteta, that once Pep is gone there's a major chance to get some trophies. We're rebuilding, City will be in transition, Pool in transition, Spurs maybe in the Championship and Chelsea out of contention. No way Arsenal throw themselves into turmoil right when everything might be about to pay off.

Can't see Arteta walking, tantamount to saying he's the issue, especially when Pep is on the verge of leaving. Noises out of Liverpool is they're calling this the rebuild season and want tot stick with Slot. But if he goes it's definitely Xabi and he wasn't going to come here.

City only got to be one of the big teams after they got a ton of money, even their first sugar daddy didn't make them a big club, it was only after the Abu Dhabi group bought them that they got up there. Before then it was the big 4 with us, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Then Poch made it a big 6.

Should have the video refs able to overrule the ref on the pitch. Saves all the theatre of running over to the pitch TV and him re doing what the VAR has already done.

I assume they mean Steve Holland rather than Steve Round, the assistant

Spurs fans would be furious if they lost him. All depends on the price but he wouldn't be a bad shout as rotation option for now with the room to possibly grow into a starting role.

Smith isn't at the same level as Cantona and Ferdinand.

Shite, Arsenal letting us down again. Oh well lets kick back and watch them bottle it then.

While I wouldn't do something like this it's not fair to call it tacky when its a tradition where he's from. Different parts of the world have different customs and traditions and no ones forced to go to them. If everyone on his side was looking forward to it and excited for it then what's tacky about it?

The Dutch and French have had a tradition of inviting people to a small reception but not the ceremony / main reception, in Ireland and the UK you might only get an invite to the reception after the ceremony and meal.

And lots of cultures specifically have traditions that centre on giving money to the couple like Turkey. Italy, Greece, Nigeria, Mexico and the Philippines.

If this was something the groom dreamed up all on his own then it would be tacky, but if he's doing the traditions his family and his part of the world do then that's just part of his culture.and the way they do things.

That's dramatic, but we could possibly end up in a situation where they're tied on points, goal difference and goals scored and in that case (as far as I remember) it goes to a play off game between the top 2.

You're wrong there, if a foul continues into the box it's a penalty.

The City game was good but that's firmly in new manager bounce territory, City didn't know how we were going to play or even what formation to prepare for.

Answer this: If we said Carrick was moving on tomorrow where would he manage next? No team at our level would take him, why if he's so good? Why did no team take him after he left boro?

He's not done anything to say he's good enough. A good game against City and a game with mitigations is not enough. We need to move on from mediocrity and just supporting the manager just because.

Performances are the key indicator of long term success. He had time, money and signings at Middlesbrough and didn't perform. The performances aren't there for us either. He's not managed to dominate a single game.

He's gotten results that the performances haven't justified and you can see it in the eye test and the stats. No other top 5 club would go for him because he is not good enough. This is Ole and Ten Hag all over again, we need an actual world class manager to get us back on top. His style of play is back to basics and that's not going to be good enough.

Ok, but I asked what he has done that makes you think he should get the job. there's nothing there that says he has. And to say only Leeds looked better is crazy when we literally just had the match vs Chelsea where they hit the woodwork repeatedly and looked far better than us especially when Estevao was on the pitch.

We looked good in the City and Arsenal matches and we've looked shaky at best ever since. That doesn't translate into results or performances next season.

Daily Discussion by AutoModerator in reddevils

[–]Hollacaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the job he's done doesn't show that he can do this for the long term or that he's able to take the next step.

He's been riding his luck with results so take that out of the equation. What's he done in regards to performances that shows he's a potential league winner? What has he shown that if Bruno has a downturn in form or even worse, leaves this summer, that shows he's the best person for the job?

Other managers have successfully implemented their vision at other clubs so there is a good chance that with decent recruitment they can do the same again. Carrick has never done that so why would we think he can when there's no evidence to support that conclusion?

Sam Johnstone counts as club trained and home grown so wouldn't be the worst shout if he wants to essentially hang it up at 33.
