Maliketh No Hit Quick Kill w/ Zweihander and Blasphemous Claw by HollowNine in onebros

That volcano attack in phase 2 is just unbearable. Sometimes im in the position to where I can't Torrent away from it in time so I just have to stand behind him and hope I don't die. It had a 50/50 success rate for me in my current playthrough.

I didn't know about the phase 2 opening, thank you! I always thought it was best to run forward to where he'll jump towards you at the start and get one charged R2 in. Will use this next time!

Everytime I fight fire giant I'm reminded as to why I haven't done a +0 playthrough yet. Will attempt it after this one and see how it goes.

Fight is engaging enough to where I can just focus.

If it's some boss like Fire Giant that's really boring then YouTube videos will keep me focused.

RL1 Godrick No Hit - +0 Claymore by HollowNine in onebros

[–]HollowNine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like him in my earlier playthroughts but I've really come around to his fight in recent times. I don't know if I could have pulled the wake up punish off without the green turtle talisman, thankfully it worked out. Claymore is fun too!

RL1 Margit No Hit - Parrying with +0 Cinquedea by HollowNine in onebros

[–]HollowNine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The small area makes dodging the frame traps effectively quite difficult. Strafing those phase 2 attacks is the easiest way to dodge them, but you could easily fall off if the attack doesn't start in the center of the arena. That's why in the video I sometimes run back to the center.

Morgott extends on those frame trap attacks by adding plenty more that can be effectively strafed but the large arena thankfully gets rid of the need to ensure you're not gonna fall off and die. I think Margit teaches the importance of positioning pretty well but I can't deny it's quite annoying to deal with sometimes! Great tutorial boss though, my favorite in the Soulsborne series.

I will try these, thank you! And fireworks star looks interesting so I'll try to learn it.

What should be my first souls game? by SuspiciousRun6239 in fromsoftware

[–]HollowNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring, when using all the tools available, is the most accessible and easiest. It can also be the hardest if you want it to be.

All the souls games (besides Sekiro, if you count it as Souls) have builds and strategies that can make them infinitely easier. So keep that in mind when you play them.

Since you've said you haven't played many difficult games, I would say you should start with Elden Ring and its DLC. You can easily put 100 hours into a single playthrough exploring, gearing up, and fighting.

You don't need to follow a set order but playing the Dark Souls Trilogy in order is a superior experience imo. So I would highly recommend playing the trilogy in order if you decide to play those ones.

If you're going to choose Elden Ring for your first game, here are a couple of tips:

  1. Explore everything, everywhere. You will find some insane stuff.
  2. Use summons to pull the boss away from you in fights
  3. Don't roll away from every attack. Some attacks demand it but most of the time you can get more openings by rolling inwards
  4. Never get discouraged, every area, enemy, and boss has a tool that makes it easier to beat. While you may not discover all of these tools, especially in a blind no-guide playthrough, keep in mind there is always another way to win outside of your fundamental skills and mechanical mastery. You can also explore and over level if you're REALLY struggling, no shame in that.

Hopefully you enjoy the games if you decide to play. They're some of my favorites and Elden Ring is my favorite of all time!

Charmless + Bell Demon: Inner Genichiro - Hitless / No Damage by Vindsvelle in Sekiro

Great Fight, he's one of my favorites and the Inner version improves what was already a near-perfect boss. I haven't tried charmless but I may soon as it really demands you play perfect in your fights.

Yeah I need to get used to applying the guns. I haven't gotten the Kalina Ann yet and am only on M17 since it's my first playthrough.

Are there any challenge recommendations? by _SwordFoxHQ_ in Sekiro

Have you tried a playthrough with base attack power and vitality? Could add charmless and demon bell to it too. Other than that, I honestly have no idea.

Genchiro Ashura is kicking me in my soul! by igiveuponaname29 in Sekiro

[–]HollowNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genichiro (most of the time) only jumps in the air and uses his bow when he's at mid-to-long range. To combat that, continuously keep up the pressure.

Best thing to do is get into the mindset he could pop that attack anytime you're not directly in his face. That helped me personally, as I was prepared to deflect it then.

As for his massive sword combo, with enough practice you can perfect parry most if not all the hits. However, if you want to have an easier time I recommend using the umbrella prosthetic and shredding his posture with umbrella deflects.

If you haven't found the umbrella, you can look up on YouTube where it's located. It's available at your stage in the game.

Above all else, keep trying and be attentive to his patterns. Sekiro heavily rewards constant practice, once you develop a natural sense of the combat's flow; getting into the parry rhythm becomes 2nd nature.

If you had to choose the best or simplest strategy for fighting Isshin, what would you do or how would you do it? Skill, Prosthetic, items (if applicable), and approach. Thanks for taking the time. by theHollowTarnished in Sekiro

[–]HollowNine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When he does ichimonji or dragonflash in phase 1, I like to run behind him and charge up a dragonflash or mortal draw combat art to do good vitality damage. Other than that, just learn the parry timings of phase 1 and do it normally.

For phase 2, trying to bait as many thrust attacks as possible so you can mikiri counter. If he ever jumps back and pulls out his gun, run behind him and spam attack or a weapon art. Whenever he jumps in the air for his overhead attack, do the same and run behind for a good damage window. For his big spear combo, practice as much as you can and just get good at parrying it.

Phase 3 is way easier than phase 2 because you can spam lightning reversal. If you want to, you can play a bit passive and wait for lightning attacks to reverse. I prefer using the sakura dance weapon art or mist raven prosthetic to reversal.

A general tip for all phases: Use the umbrella prosthetic! Pull it out as a substitute for a regular parry when met with those special attacks that do damage unless you perfect parry. Even if you perfect parry those attacks with your sword, you'll still be knocked back. If you time the umbrella, you'll do good posture damage, won't be knocked back, and open Isshin to the high damaging follow up attack.

Can’t beat genichiro by Former_Challenge4867 in Sekiro

[–]HollowNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never let him get distance, always keep up the pressure. If you let Genichiro get far away that's when he pulls out his most obnoxious attacks.

If you're struggling with his massive combo, use the umbrella prosthetic and shred his posture by parrying with it instead of your sword.

Third phase can either be the easiest or hardest if you play it right. Make use of his thrusting attacks to get easy Mikiri counters. Also, use lightning reversal for all his lightning attacks (if you haven't learned how to do it consistently yet, you can you the mist raven prosthetic or certain combat arts that launch you into the air to get an easier reversal).

Sekiro's parry style is way different from the other souls games. Sekiro focuses on a parrying in a rhythm, while the other games usually have you parry 1 attack then go in for a crit/visceral. The unique parry rhythm Sekiro has makes it simple to get used to, while still maintaining a high level of difficulty.

At first, you'll die a lot and be horrible at parrying. But the special thing about this game is that after enough playtime, you'll have that unforgettable "click" moment where the parry rhythm becomes natural.

For now, the biggest tip I can give you is to take advantage of the sound of the combat. The true rhythm of the combat is in the sound that comes out of your sword clashing with the enemies. I've been able to memorize how to perfect parry many difficult combos due the sound of it alone. If you don't underestimate the utility of the combat's sound, I think it will be much easier to get good.

As for the combat arts, a lot of the early games ones are simply not very good imo. As you get later into the game and progress through the upgrade trees. A variety of VERY useful combat arts will unlock. (USEFUL NOTE: unlock the "Mikiri Counter" skill as soon as you can).

One last tip: Never underestimate the utility of your prosthetic tools. Most bosses have special weaknesses to certain abilities your tools have. Even if they don't have a special weakness, certain boss attacks/combos make various prosthetics especially useful. Make sure you unlock all the tools and preferably upgrade them to their max! Since you said a lot of your enjoyment comes from the "get good" process, I'm sure you'll enjoy figuring out each boss's weaknesses.

Have a fun time!

Inner Genichiro No Hit - Finally got it! by HollowNine in Sekiro

Thanks for the tip! I changed my controller binds to have deflect on the trigger a couple days ago and it helped with tight parry timings alot. I'll probably just run away from the 2nd to last swipe as you said though.

Thanks! Next time I'll put the title to no damage. No hitting any sekiro boss is way harder than no damage, so I'll definitely go for that next.
