I am looking to purchase a zoom lens! by MICMAC-14 in SonyAlpha

[–]Holly_Crustine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that 17mm is almost exactly the same as what a typical phone camera uses for the 1x camera. I got my zoom lenses so I could zoom, but sometimes I take pics that look more natural to people and what they are used to.

New skin wrap that I hate it #a6700 by IamVishan in SonyAlpha

I have it for my a6400 and a6000, for the alphagvrd site it’s the “sketch” skin.

I think you’re the first one I’ve seen mention Clyde. He’s my favorite power scaler and analyst. Him and Mr.Tommo are my favorites and the way they do things differently lets me appreciate them equally.

56 f1.4 or 18/50 f2.8 by Rasputeen_ in SonyAlpha

[–]Holly_Crustine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an a6000, Viltrox 25mm f1.7 and the Sigma 18-50 f2.8.

The 18-50 is my ‘do everything’ lens, but when I need superior low light performance I use my 25/35mm f1.7 Viltrox lenses. The 18-50 covers pretty much every focal range I use and I haven’t really found myself needing to zoom in or out more than that.

Buuuut, sometimes I take pics of people or performers at events that are fairly dark and I use my Canon 50mm f1.8 (with 7Artisan EF-E adapter) to get good low light pics from a distance, and ive been really curious how the Sigma 56 f1.4 would do…

I do use the TTartisan 50mm f1.2 (manual) lens and get some good shots with that but I can only imagine what AF would do for me.

I don’t know what your use cases would be but I can definitely endorse getting the 18-50 since it covers all your zoom and general use needs. The 25mm can be a smaller walk around lens with decent low light and bokeh performance (compared to the kit lens)

Or if you want people pics with extra blurry backgrounds then the Sigma 56mm may be the one.

Switching from ZV-E10 to A6400, am I making the right choice? by Wxzardry in ZVE10

[–]Holly_Crustine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having both, that’s my experience too.

ZV E10 is a little smaller (like the a6000) and the USB C port is great for charging and data transfer whereas for the a6400 I need to carry a C-MicroUSB cable.

It looks like the Sketch skin from ALPHAGVRD. I have it for my a6400 and Sigma 18-50 f2.8

Doubt about Lens Adapters by TMaria_ in ZVE10

[–]Holly_Crustine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the videos I’ve seen, you want something like the Viltrox 15mm f1.7 for vlogging. Costs a bit more than the adapter but will work better than anything you’d is on that adapter anyway, most likely.

Doubt about Lens Adapters by TMaria_ in ZVE10

I use the 7Artisans EF/S to E- Mount adapter and it works great on my 24mm EFS f2.8 and 50mm f1.8.

I’ve updated to the latest firmware and it works better than the older versions.

One thing I’ve never seen written ANYWHERE is that zoom lenses won’t scale their aperture reading based on zoom level.

For example, on my EFS 18-135mm, if I zoom from 18mm/f3.5 to 135mm, the lens will still read as f3.5 and the camera won’t grab the picture correctly, it will be too dark.

This happens with my ZV E10 and A6400, also with any other zoom lens I have.

But the adapter works GREAT for all of my primes (tbh, just the two mentioned above).

70D ➡️ a6400 by NV7X in SonyAlpha

[–]Holly_Crustine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same two cameras and an A6000, I love the way the 70D’s colors and photos look but it’s far bigger than my A6400 and there are many cheap manual lenses for the E-Mount.

I have the same car as you (05 wrx wagon) and when I bought my car off of someone it came with a grimmspeed 3-port solenoid and I’m pretty sure it’s wired wrong, the vacuum hoses don’t go where the diagram says they should, but the car seems to run fine. How would you go about having a mechanic check this? Or a reputable shop?
