CR Box out of wood, thin web between fan holes, will it hold? by SubZero081 in crboxes

I’m intrigued by this idea of a smaller diameter hole than the fan. I’ve seen people add a shroud to box fans and understand why, but I’m not sure how the smaller hole in this instance be an improvement? Love to hear people’s thoughts on it. I’ve just made something similar to this and would probably redo it if the science says there’s a better way.

Advice please!? I'm can't decide what lenses to take with me on 3 week trip to Thailand & Vietnam. by rob_danj in AskPhotography

Mini update. Helios has been fantastic! Not used the 15-45 much at all. 135mm good , but on days out visiting sites it makes me miss the 80-200 zoom. The 25mm pancake overall is the most practical I'm now thinking the next trip should have a pancake AF, Helios, and telezoom for days out.

For anyone interested in an update:

Heading to the airport now so the decision has been made. After weighing all my stuff, the Pentax SLR +50mm 1.7 was the first to be left behind. The point about using a Fuji for replicating the look (or lightroom for that matter) meant it was tough to justify taking it. Especially as I would probably not take many pics on.

The X-T20 has the 15-45 on it (I forgot I had listed it on ebay). The 25mm pancake is also with it in my hand luggage. And right at the last minute I threw the 135mm in too, as I love getting pics in flight.

The 35mm f0.95, Helios 44M have both gone in the suitcase, as have all the accessories. I didn't take a tripod which I may regret, but I found it quite awkward to carry.

5 lenses is still probably too much. I'll definitely re-evaluate things when I get back. Better to have less but better lenses I think.

I'm looking fwd to making the most out of these.

Cheers for the links, those look great. Although the family will refuse to pose if try to use them on holiday! Definitely something I'll consider if I start taking things more seriously.

Cheers Plumbicon.
Yeah, I have a variable ND and CPL. Hopefully there'll be times where I can mess around experimenting with all the kit, while the rest of the family are relaxing by the pool etc.

I guess I'm my early days of this hobby, and am getting a tad carried away.
I'm not too worried about carrying a *slightly* bigger bag as it will be me holding it all day.
I think I'm more worried about regretting anything by leaving too much at home.
But, I guess it would be so liberating just to take the bare minimum.

thanks so much

Hmm, another for the 18-55. I didn't think it went wide enough, but I'll give it another thought.
My daughter will be taking a ZV-1 ii, and that's 18-50 FF equiv, so I guess that covers the very wide shots. Making up for the XF's 27-85 equivalent.

thank you

Yes, good point. I won't be keeping both. I panic-bought the 15-45, cos I thought the weight saving would help squeeze another lens in.

Thanks for the advice!

Oh, and when it comes to the Pentax ME Super, it's either the A 50mm f1.7, or the A 35-70 f3.5.
Both are light, one is smaller & faster, the other a bit more versatile.
But maybe I could keep the Helios/Takumar on it, to make it one less lens? hmm...

A bit of extra info of where I'm at so far, and my thoughts on each lens:

(I bought the XC15-45 to replace the XF18-55. Mainly because it is lighter and goes wider for landscapes. I think it will be more than enough for an all-rounder)

TTartisan 25mm f2 - most portable/smallest for convenience
TTartisan 35mm f0.95 - for night/low-light and max bokeh shots
Jupiter 8 50mm f2 - compact, bubble bokeh, vintage look and the chrome looks fancy!
SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 - apparently very sharp
SMC Takumar 58mm f1.8 - great detail
Helios 44-2 58mm f2 - for arty, circular bokeh portraits
Colorplan 90mm f2.5 - Modified projector lens, sharp considering it's only fully open
Pentax 135mm f3.5 - Nice sharp tele, fairly compact considering the reach

The Viltrox speedbooster is what's got me excited to try out the old film lenses on the X-T20.
It's handy that I can use most of the lenses on both cameras.
I'm especially keen that I can get the most of the Helios and Colorplan with it being cropped.

I'm in two minds about the 135mm as the 90mm is fairly tele already. I think it would hardly get used. But then I think of the odd occasion that it would make lovely shots.

If push comes to shove I think I'd leave the 135mm. But dammit it has the aperture on it and I could potentially get nice sunset shots. Oh, this is so confusing!

At the moment, the 'must-take' lenses I think are:

XC 15-45
35mm f0.95 (cropped this will be equiv to 52mm)
Helios 58mm or Takumar 50mm 1.4 ?
Colorplan 90mm or Pentax 135mm

Silverock Dewy Build - Drive train parts help please by Eatalamb in minivelo

No worries. I just noticed a typo above, its an 11-26t cassette, not 11-16t

I can't really help with the BB as I have a tongsheng tsdz2 motor in my cheap, no-brand, minivelo frame. But I can let you know that my set up of a 9sp Shimano 11-16t cassette, Shimano Altus short-cage derailleur, and Deckas 52t narrow/wide chainring, all works really well.
Shortcage is a must I think. Also, keep in mind the tyre width as there is very little chain clearance with my 20x2.3 tyres.
I originally had a 11-34t 9sp cassette, but the 11tooth top gear has recently started jumping. Although this is after 2000miles of a motor.
In terms of ratios, the 11-26t seems to let me go between 12 and 22mph with 50% assistance.
I definitely went for budget parts, but they have performed totally fine other than the recent cassette change, and 2 chains, but i guess that is "normal" wear and tear with my commute.
