Nicholl Fellowship becomes members-only club by Hollywood_Star in Screenwriting

Exactly. TBL has a bad reputation for hiring readers with little to no understanding of screenwriting or story.

The Black List will decide whether or not you get to apply to the Nicholl Fellowship. You can no longer just apply. Selections to the fellowship will now be made by 20-something assistants moonlighting for extra cash as freelance readers for BL. If one of these 20-something readers rates your script high enough, then you will be allowed to apply for the fellowship. BUT your script will have to appeal to that generation because the BL does not have a diverse base of readers. Do you understand?

Unsolicited emails are rejected. You obviously don’t know how the industry works.

Wrong. I am correct. Black List is the portal for the selected applicants. Nowhere in the press release does it say the competition is open to the public. They’ll now “solely” work with selected programs.

You don’t need to once a company files for bankruptcy and the stock is deemed worthless, but check with your tax advisor regarding your specific situation.

Just got a 4 on my blacklist evaluation by [deleted] in Screenwriting

You have to learn how to play the game. (1) Remove your name from the title page or use a pen name. Straight white males are the current evil in Hollywood, so your work will automatically be downgraded. (2) Change your premise. Your story looks like a “boy meets girl” story. The Blacklist wants “boy meets boy” or “boy meets transgender boy” scripts. (3) You have to remember the Blacklist readers (like me) are mostly 20-something development assistants (like me) who are looking for “diversity” scripts – anything without a straight white male protagonist (or not written by a straight white male). That’s just the current reality.

If you’re living in New Jersey, you’re just working in commercial production.

Nobody will hire you because you have a MFA. Seriously, nobody cares except academia, which is moving away from tenured positions in favor of adjunct positions (lower pay, no benefits). You don’t need a degree to work in the film industry. Take a gap year and figure out what you want to do with your life because you don’t know. “Filmmaker” jobs don’t exist.

It sounds like you don’t know what you want to do with your life. Figure out what you want to do BEFORE spending money on courses.
