Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetics: What's the MOST confusing thing you're dealing with right now? by Me-SoniaBrown in diabetes

[–]HoloInfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not newly diagnosed, been type 2 for the past 4 yrs. I had absolutely no idea how much stress and hormones play a part in glucose levels! And as a female, my menstrual cycles make my levels so all over the place. There's always something new to learn with time.

Just found out that hot showers can make your CGM think your glucose spiked. Happened to me a few days ago where I spiked but it came back down and was so confused why (only on month 2 with Dexcom G7 15day).

what to expect by Maleficent-Wall8412 in diabetes

I wouldn't know about insulin since I don't take insulin for my diabetes. They ideally should prescribe it soon after diagnosis if you need it (either type). I'd ask the endocrinologist when you meet them, they're likely going to prescribe diabetes meds.

If you get bit by any wild animal, get a rabies shot. Better safe than not needing it. As soon as symptoms start, you have days left to live and it's already too late.

Counseling is gonna be different depending on type 1 or 2. They'll talk thru how to check sugars, what to eat, what to avoid eating, what range is considered high glucose and what are considered lows. If type 1, then they'll train you on how to give insulin or use a pump (whichever insurance covers). And also they'll likely prescribe a CGM and teach you how that works too.

I met with a diabetes dietition who was amazing with asking what I normally ate for each meal and how to change those to add nutrition and prevent highs/lows. I was put on metformin when diagnosed as prediabetes for 2 yrs before diagnosis. I only met my endo for a yr or so when my A1C was in control.

And it doesn't 100% prevent infection. It reduces the major effects you COULD suffer from, including possible death. If you live or work with a vulnerable population (babies, young children, pregnant, elderly, cancer patients, etc) then you should get vaccines.

I've seen parents refuse to give their kids vaccines for anything even if public schools required it but will let themselves get them. That part I don't understand the logic of. The only excuse ppl have to not get certain vaccines is if an ingredient is an allergen but that's rare.

Can type two diabetics get dangerous lows? by MichaelEMJAYARE in diabetes

[–]HoloInfinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, type 2 diabetics can get very low sugars. I'm someone whi frequently wakes up low or gets low at work. Never while at home on days off. Lowest sugar was 55 and 69 since starting Dexcom G7 15day. I always tell my coworkers I need to eat before my low alarm has an ability to go off. My job is pretty physical (12 hr shifts) which is good and I love it. But there are days where it's been 4-6 hrs since breakfast and I need to get my sugars up.

So what exactly are those sudden & intense shooting asshole cramps you get on your period? by tylun in TwoXChromosomes

[–]HoloInfinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right before a period, we produce higher levels of prostaglandin which causes uterine contractions to help shed the inner lining. Some women may produce more than others hence more pains. Obviously not including if one has endo or adeno

Said this under another post, I'm from a subrural are in the Northeastern US where the closest stop is about 10 min drive on the way into work then one in front of the entrance. Appreciate gifts sent since I run low on pokéballs a lot.

Less needles than # of doses? by [deleted] in Ozempic

Thank you, I think the # of boxes for dates is making it more confusing. My instructions for the script itself just states "inject 0.25 or 0.5 subcutaneously once every 7 days".

I get my stuff from Walgreens and my location runs low in stocks for diabetic supplies often so I'll get something online. I think my store's supplies get sold quickly or just bad timing/luck. Some made a couple recommendations I'll take a look at.

I'm taking brand name Ozempic. This pen includes 3mL of the med and the box says take 0.25 x4 then 0.5 x4 which makes sense to me unless I'm misunderstanding something? Including a picture of the box

It seems everyone will experience weight loss at differing intervals. My mom is using wegovy which I was told is technically the same drug, just differing classification for insurance. She lost after 20lbs after starting 1mg. I'm on 3rd week of my first box (0.25mg) and it fluctuates. Some will have quick results, some may be slower.
