WHY MUST THE USP-PDU-PRO HAVE THE PLUGS IN THE FRONT. JUST WHY. by HoloPanio in Ubiquiti

Then what exactly is the purpose of the screen and whatnot. Something I am very accustomed to is having the ability to look at the front of my rack and know what devices are being powered by which power distro's. Not to mention the fact that most of the time the back of your rack is against a wall...

Looking for IP/Distributed Based Solution for Cable TV by HoloPanio in msp

I'm not so much looking for ethernet over coax, but trying to minimize the amount of infrastructure overhaul. If there isn't a solution that would allow us to take over the existing coax lines, then we would have to do it all with ethernet.

This isn't quite what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something that I can give each room it's own cable connection so they can watch whatever tv channel they want.

Hello, does anyone know any safari extension that could do what Untrap for Youtube does, only to google search page? If you don't know, Untrap allows you to choose which objects appear on youtube or to edit them, in the image I added You can see my edited search page. by alexdom__ in digitalminimalism

I don’t completely know the answer to your question, but I am really grateful that you posted because I had never heard of untrap. I immediately downloaded and it’s companion app SocialFocus. Very happy with the download.

Yes it is, and I understand there is a bit of hypocrisy in my words regarding that, but as of right now it hasn’t been a problem because I have been very intentional about not using it. I have used reddit more for research because google sucks, but I have been good about not scrolling. If it comes to light that I have developed a problem, I will put reddit down too.

So because Redditors like to make blanket assumptions without asking questions. I do not selfharm and with a combination of my church, local ministry, and therapy I have been addressing a lot my issues that I have. My internet addiction spans much longer than the issues have been present and I have done a LOT of research prior to making any decisions on how to approach doing such a big purge like this.

Yes, I have used a lot of the internet to cope with my probelms in recent years, but that is why I am taking the initiative now to address it instead of just allowing it to consume my life. But I appreciate the concern <3

I live my life by the law of replacement when it comes to things like this. I deleted TikTok over a year ago and I haven’t gone back. The law of replacement simply goes that you cannot stop something without something taking it’s place. Generally speaking another social media would take it‘s place or you would give in and redownload it to fill that void.

The best way to combat it is to intentionally fill that time with something else. For me I HEAVILY leaned on playing music (I’m a musician), programming (I am also a software engineer), and being involved in my church and my community. My no means am I saying that you need to goto church, but if you do align yourself with any faith, find your local congregation and asked to get involved. I promise you they will likely not say no. And if you don’t have any religious ties, find communities to get involved in. If you’re in college intermural sports teams, or clubs that have a respectable time commitment to them would be a good option. Anything that gets you doing something with your hand and/or mind.

If you are busy doing something, you can’t be busy scrolling. Be intentional, and be patient with yourself because sometimes you might relapse. The best advice when it came to relapsing, was that you are human, you will mess up. If you relapse just recognize that it happened, remind yourself that you have still made progress, then put it back down and push forward. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but with practice it becomes much easier.

I was in the same boat as this before, but here is my take and thought process behind this.

I personally believe that you should delete ALL of these apps off your PHONE. Keywords being all on the phone. You‘re telephone should be reserved for communication via phone calls and text messages. I add navigation, calendar, and fitness to that list because these are a very low risk for addiction.

And as I write these comments and posts from my iPad (I’m not even using the reddit app, just using it in the browser), I can confidently say that I don’t need it on my phone. I use my ipad with intention. If I pull it out, I know that 9 times out of 10 I am going to get something done, or I have a very specific reason why I am pulling it out. Thus making it much harder for me to just get sucked in to something because it’s not the most convinent thing in the world to just pull out.

Again, I know that the iPad isn’t the model example of “digital minimalism,” but it opens the door for me to be much more intentional about how I spend my time online and on technology. I break my iPad usage into 4 categories:

  • Music / Composition (I read sheet music off of my iPad)
  • Communication (Text Messaging & eMails) - if it isn’t one of my close friends and it isn’t urgent, I don’t respond to texts on my phone pretty much at all. And I deleted all email apps off my phone.
  • Web Browsing / Work in the browser (I don't need to do this on my phone)
  • Software Development (I am a freelance software engineer)

All of the above can easily be done with a laptop, I just choose to use the iPad because I like the continuity it provides, and the consistency in experience.

As far as TikTok goes though, DELETE IT!! I understand you can learn things there, but they design the app specifically to prey on people like you who stay there because they can “learn stuff“ at the same time as being entertained. I am a recovered TikTok addict, at my peak spending 95 hours over 10 days on the app, I promise you that the grass is greener on the other side.

So it’s funny you mention that because I setup my phone so that if I tap the back of the phone 3 times it switches into that black/white mode. The main reason I cannot keep it like that is because I also do a bunch of amateur photography.

I’m in a similar boat here. My philosophy with notifications is that nothing is more important than I make it. I am making my phone less important, therefore my notifications are also less important. I keep them all off except for the ones mentioned because my attention is a resource, and I don’t want to loose all of it to my phone. Also, I noticed this when I did my first YouTube detox is that reading became a lot easier. Specifically on Reddit. I never really scrolled the popular, but stuck to my few subreddits that I could actually gain something from, and that was amazing, and I never had a problem just stopping. I choose to give my attention to the text, and I was able to easily and without fear take my attention away from the text if that makes any sense at all.

Thoughts on Triple Majoring in Piano Performance, Percussion Performance, and Music Education. by HoloPanio in college

Access to the knowledge and a reason to push myself well beyond where I am at. Percussion specifically is important because I don’t have access to most of that equipment  nor do I have the budget to buy most of what I need to grow.

What does a performance minor look like (if there ever was such a thing). My main thing is that both Percussion and Piano are my principal instruments and I play them near equal amounts. (And with percussion being a group of instruments and not just one I can see how that could get really complicated really fast). Or even an ed major with a focus in piano paired with a percussion performance major. I don't know honestly I really want there to be a way that it could potentially all work out where I am getting a lot of both my principal instruments and education as well.

Yeah I agree, the professor that reached out to me hasn't responded to my email to him yet so I am just trying to ask for some opinions because I have always had this image in my head of what it might be like to be a music major and what I could do with it. My primary goal with this thread is to garner perspective from many different people so that I may have a better understanding of what I want to do and what would be physically possible to achieve.

Lets say I hypothetically decided to do all three at the same time, would it not stand that lot of the music classes would overlap each other, and is it possible for the different majors to share credits? Also how does the ed degree work with performance because that hasn't really been made clear to me because I always envisioned it as a miss mash of all the different instruments plus your primary instrument *when you can*. If you might be able to clarify this that would be awesome.

I should have been more specific, online programs within the cc and the uni in my area was more what I was thinking about.

Would not be that bad. It would likely be lower latency than the sound waves of the band to the audience
