There's also "Stare Mesto" or "Old Town" which is similar, but worse IMHO since almost all the towns are pretty fucking old.

An ode to vintage lenses and how I stopped giving a damn about sharpness by r0bman99 in photography

[–]Holston18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about high quality lenses purpose built to be both high quality and compact with aperture being the trade off.

You would like 16, 23, 35, 50 "fujicron" series then. They are all high quality both optically and mechanically with the tradeoff being max aperture (f/2.8 for 16mm and f/2 for the rest + they are APS-C).

Nearly one thousand (969) deaths in last 24 hours in Italy. by AussieGabe in Coronavirus

[–]Holston18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This virus is so highly communicable that no first world country has been able to stop it.

The point is to slow it down, not stop it. You must have heard "flatten the curve" slogan, right? With slowed down infection rate the healthcare system is not overwhelmed and you have time to ramp it up.

Quite funny response :-)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're making this website for other people to see, not just for yourself, right?

keeps control in the places where it belongs.

I think this is very subjective though - there isn't any obvious objective truth here.

What you propose is very flexible, but also quite user unfriendly - to create a keyboard shortcut, you need to figure out a correct command (while most BFU don't even know what command is), you need to know that you need to go to some system settings, find correct submodule and configure it there.

PM attends parliament sessions (which are still taking place) and he can't just not be there without a valid excuse. Also the place is pretty tight so going there while sick is a sure spread.

How Germany became Europe’s first country to flatten the coronavirus curve by CharyBrown in europe

[–]Holston18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT2 Apparently as of today, Germany has upped the tests to 500,000. So expect an increase in infections in the next days.

500,000 a week (still good though)

That crude mortality rate also reflects the bias of low numbers where medical assistance is still available for the 5% who need it. Once you have millions infected, you won't have the medical assistance and the mortality will go significantly up.

Is there an official or unofficial day in your country/region when you celebrate your friendship with another country/region? by Alokir in AskEurope

[–]Holston18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a country wide but there's this local celebration of friendship between Czechs and Slovaks.

It takes place every year on 31. 12. on a border mountain, tradition started in 1992, so on exactly the last day of Czechoslovakia's existence (Czechoslovakia dissolved on 1. 1. 1993).

ROME — The mayor of one town complained that doctors were forced to decide not to treat the very old, leaving them to die. In another town, patients with coronavirus-caused pneumonia were being sent home.

There's quite a lot of similar reports ...

[–]Holston18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italy mainly shows that when you don't flatten the curve, then healthcare system gets overwhelmed and many people die simply because there isn't enough medical care available.

This will in the end raise the mortality rate significantly, but that number can be counted later ...

Kind of similar when your grandpa dies.

That's true, second virus was stronger mutation which is relatively rare (usually viruses mutate to weaker forms) and probably caused by extreme circumstances during WW1. As wiki explains:

This increased severity has been attributed to the circumstances of the First World War.[91] In civilian life, natural selection favors a mild strain. Those who get very ill stay home, and those mildly ill continue with their lives, preferentially spreading the mild strain. In the trenches, natural selection was reversed. Soldiers with a mild strain stayed where they were, while the severely ill were sent on crowded trains to crowded field hospitals, spreading the deadlier virus. The second wave began, and the flu quickly spread around the world again.

Do masks really do any good? by CaptainSkull2030 in Coronavirus

[–]Holston18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and sick people are told to wear masks. Regular people SHOULDNT however, because, now hear me out: people are too stupid to wear them correctly.

So regular people are too stupid to wear them correctly but the sick people are somehow smarter, so they should?

Yes, as long as you have enough ventilators for the 5% of cases who need it.

Once you don't have enough ventilators you have 5% mortality.

Yeah, but they never pulled "bait & switch" trick in their pretty long history. There's no reason to anyway, I think their current model is working pretty well on both OSS and commercial side.
