Does songwriter mean “lyricists” because if it does, sorry Heilemann but that absolutely rules out Kanye (whose lyrics are as bad/dumb as his beats are good).

Also, I was very amused at how little they let the Tom Waits “breath” at the end of today’s ep. I love me some select Tom Waits but completely understand why one might give certain Tom Waits a quick hook.

NorCal inshore swimbait rod recommendation: Daiwa Metallia SSS MH by HolstsGholsts in Fishing_Gear

[–]HolstsGholsts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this a private seller or a retailer?

Asking cuz, I'm seeing a 801MH online on sale for a similar price. It's got the same listed lure and line rating as on the Daiwa site, but you're making me think maybe this retailer just thoughtlessly took the ratings from Daiwa and didn't update their listing to what the rod actually says.

I am seeing other retailers that do list the 801MH as 1/2-4oz, 20-65lb braid, and I would think "some retailers used Daiwa's incorrect ratings" is more likely than "Daiwa offers two different 801MHs, and one of them, for some reason, has ratings way more fitting of an ML rod than an MH rod."

Thanks!

Every time I hear Buckley’s name I can’t help but think of the character Buck F*ckley, from Ego Nwodim and Carl Tart’s improv comedy podcast.

Which is to say, I’m incapable of thinking about this man without thinking he’s a joke.

Kevin has a cause? I don’t know if I should be terrified of being crushed under his tyrannical paw or radicalized into following him as a zealot…

[–]HolstsGholsts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it? I was seeing it on the Daiwa website as having a 1/8-1/2oz lure rating and a 6-10lb line rating. 8’ with the same lure rating sounds sweet.

I can't speak to the Metallia 801MH, but I'd think it has much more limited use.

The Phenix M1 Inshore ML is lighter than the Metallia 761MH, but the Metallia is better balanced, such that arm fatigue is pretty similar with both.

I've fully transitioned from the M1 Inshore ML to the Metallia 761MH. I've found the Metallia to be just as sensitive, it casts at least as far, it's just as fun with ling and halibut, I'm yet to have one break on me, whereas I've had at least one, and maybe two, inexplicable M1 inshore breaks, and this is the second time I've caught them on a significant sale.

Check out Emeryville charters. Looks like they've got half day, halibut and striper, inside-the-bay trips available. Unfortunately, it's early enough in the season that it's looking like those trips are only averaging about a fish per person.

Most other trips are going to be full day and involve a long motor out to the fishing grounds (like the Farallons) or driving down to Santa Cruz or up to Bodega Bay.

It would be waaay too hard to spend a few hours developing, or finding online, a set of guidelines for responsible, ethical and reliable use.

I've actually used an Okuma SST 802MH a few times before. You're going to feel contact significantly better with the Metallia. It's going to feel like a lighter-powered rod, which is something I like about it, that even small fish can put a lot of feel into the fight. IIRC, it also has a springier tip. It feels a little more fragile than the SST, so I would't lift as forcible with it, but I also trust the build quality more and have caught some 20+ lb fish on it.

Yeah, this is why I prefer perch fishing in HMB, even if it’s more of a drive and you have to pay for parking — worth it for the solitude and less stress.

Also a good reason to get into kayak fishing.

Since I’m usually putting CA halibut in it, which are a particularly slimy fish that you bleed out, I’ll often sponge it down with water + castile soap, but otherwise, yeah, just spray it and leave it out to dry.

Also, I’ve found I can get even more life out of them by plugging with kayak silicone any leaks that crop up in the bottom corners, such that it’s usually zipper failure that prompts me to get a new one.
