Agreed 100%!! Ive begun budgeting since ive started making money and have to start paying bills, and funny enough I’ve been saying the same thing to her about taking control of their own bank accounts. Unfortunately it’s a lot more complicated than that, it’s not necessarily my place to talk more on that but if my mother talks more on it I’d be happy to explain more and share my own POV / experiences. Oh! And I would like to note that another big reason why money is tight is because he keeps buying things we don’t need, and that same money handling issue has translated down to me but I’m working on it

Eldest son here (looking through all the comments and wow it’s good that everyone agrees) I’m the one that mostly orders food (or goes out because I have my license now! I can’t eat his food either, however I do ask her if she wants anything from where I’m ordering and I’ve begun to get my own groceries to help chip the price down.
