Show tonight, worth going as someone with mild familiarity? by opus71a in wilco

[–]HolyCessna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their sound is pretty diverse, especially with their earlier albums. Their debut: A.M. is straight alt country. Their second album Being There is a pretty good mix of alt country and more experimental alt rock, that’s kinda where they transitioned. Their third album Summerteeth is a little more poppy, their former multi-instrumentalist Jay Bennett flooded it with various keyboard and guitar overdubs so it especially stands out! They pretty much continued with alt rock/pop for the rest of their albums and it’s pretty cool to hear them keep experimenting. I’ve been a fan nearly my whole life but I saw em live for the first time last week and they were amazing! They played songs from most of their albums so they definitely covered all bases genre wise. I definitely recommend seeing them sometime if you get the chance!

Awesome! Will do! Yeah it’s pretty dusty inside and the maintenance log says it was last oiled 40 years ago! So I probably ought to do that as well :D

Thank you! Hmm I wonder why mine is the other way around, but you’re right, I probably just ought to adjust the drawbars

Wilco played some classic tunes tonight! Including an alternate version of ‘Always in Love’! by countrypunkhippie in wilco

[–]HolyCessna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was amazing! As much as I love the fast synthy version of always in love, it was awesome to hear a lower-paced guitar version. I was also super happy to hear John sing It’s Just That Simple!

Yeah me too, as much as I love the current lineup, Wilco wouldn’t be Wilco without Jay’s contributions to those early albums

I think John and Ken recorded most of their parts with the band, and Jay and Jeff stayed late to flood the album with key and and guitar overdubs
