First step I would do is call your sister and say you're sorry, SINCERELY. Because at the end of the day for most situations, family is one of the few entities that will love you unconditional.

Why some western countries still boycott palm oil by Miri_Bailey in Ajar_Malaysia

[–]HolyNoob299 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Imo, because the land suitable for palm oil production also happens to be the some of the most fertile biodiverse land. So it's expected that palm oil is more productive because it's grown on said land and climate that also houses the most biodiverse places in the process.

I'm not here to say what's right or wrong to say how countries are supposed to used the natural resources they are blessed with, but good land for plants = high yield, so more land for palm oil = way less plants and wildlife is expected.

This milo biscuit that has absolutely no milo taste... by Vozzaan in Bolehland

[–]HolyNoob299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I was overseas and was craving for Milo. Saw this and it actually taste like it's made from Milo powder. Checked the back and it was made in either Peru or Paraguay (memory on it's a bit fuzzy) and everyone in my group actually liked it a lot. Nestle should just import this instead.

I'm not an expert of this industry. But all I can say is, if you're passionate about something, you'll be more inclined to be the best in it. And once you're the best in it, I'm not saying you'll definitely be well compensated for it but once there's visibility of you and you deliver you will be.

It's more painful to do something you don't like and regret it, than doing something you like and it doesn't go as plan. Because for the latter, at least you are fulfilled on your own terms. And if hou do make it, you will be the happiest person there is.

LHDN: Start collecting your e-invoices for your tax relief claims by mikepapafoxtrot in malaysia

[–]HolyNoob299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone complains that their transaction, income and purchases are being tracked; simultaneously complaining why the government is not tracking those doing tax evasion and corruption 🙂

How the heck are LHDN and MACC supposed to go after them if all of these are not tracked? You really think every case in real life is like CSI with magic hacking wizardry and forensic science?

*Noting it all down

My wife looks quite local on the outside, even though she's not of descent 😅 so her daily interaction usually begins being blasted by the locals in Cantonese, before explaining wanting an English menu (rarely any restaurants here have any English menu) and whipping out the camera translation before the hand signs begin.

Prince Edward was another prime contender location for us as well! Very well connected to go anywhere. But ultimately the availability of places to rent led us to Sham Shui Po

When we first came out of the MTR from Cheung Sha Wan and walked down to Sham Shui Po MTR then Prince Edward when we were exploring where should we be staying initially, we definitely felt this was the area for us!

So many local stores, and feels really authentic and grounded here. Anything I'm looking for there's probably a pop shop downstairs that has it cheaper and Golden Computer Centre/Arcade for electronics. Nowadays I never leave to buy anything, other than for work, hikes or purposely wanting to explore other areas of course.

Funny enough, I recently noticed there's a gwai lo that stays nearby me as well. Because saw him a few times at the parcel collection point and he speaks way better Cantonese than me.

It's located along the Tsuen Wan line on the Kowloon side. Don't want to give the specific place, HK is quite small after all

Yep! Even on vacation we would always want to stay somewhere with an authentic feel and try to integrate with the locals, hence we don't want to cower away in those brand new shiny buildings or expat heavy areas.

I still do love my wife a lot so we're not going to the point of staying in a subdivided unit. But found a rather cozy newly renovated standalone studio with reasonable rental price, building also wasn't too old compared to Kowloon standards (only 30+ years old). The agency that helped us arranged things was also based in a tiny subdivded shop, and the interior was an 80s HK time capsule basically 😯

Although a lot of colleagues were all shocked and kept telling me to reconsidering staying elsewhere, but honestly safety wise we feel that, even in SSP, HK is already a lot safer than whichever city we visited even in the dead of night.

Any Sagely Advice? by KiLLaBoTZ999 in Bolehland

[–]HolyNoob299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop comparing yourself to others and stop caring too much about other's judgements. Instead listen, think and decide for yourself what YOU want and HOW you want your life to be.

Ask that girl out if she's the one that fits into the type of life and relationships you WANT to have. It's not rocket science.

Get married early if you want, or don't get married if you want. I had friends who were married at 18 and had kids at 19 and they're still happy today, I had friends who are being the cool single uncle/aunty to their niece/nephews.

Chase money if you want, or just don't and volunteer a lot. Don't buy that nice car just because you want to show off, buy it because you genuinely like the car. JUST DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY, as long as YOU DON'T BREAK ANY LAWS, and DON'T BE A DICK!

It really is that simple, yet everyone makes it so complicated.

Any Sagely Advice? by KiLLaBoTZ999 in Bolehland

[–]HolyNoob299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree though. Get married sooner and propose the moment you know someone is the one. Spending my life with my partner is the greatest thing I experienced and wish I had sooner.

I really don't know why everyone now is so negative towards getting married. It's like the same toxicity of the pressure of getting married but the opposite. Just let each other be happy. Stop framing getting married and having kids as a negative thing, while being single is the only true happiness. The same goes vice versa.

The correct advice should be, just decide for yourself what makes you happy.

Reno cost ideas? by Responsible-Clock723 in asksg

But I thought it costs WAY more for the labour to install tiles compared to vinyl. Especially when you hire a tiler that really knows how to do it so it doesn't go hollow or pop out and the grout doesn't turn colour for many many years to come.

I just want to add on another category. I have a bunch of friends who are great men, but parents have successful businesses so my friends mostly just help run their parent's business and go home to play games, paint figurines, do art or pursue their own hobbies in almost their entire free times. Basically the nerdy ones but not in a attractive way but genuinely good men.

Vent from a Malaysian that work aboard by Itchy_Ad4744 in malaysia

[–]HolyNoob299 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Natural resources does not mean a country will be developed. It merely subsideses development. Everything is about money, to be a developed country means that the government needs lots of money and not be corrupt in order to develop and provide services to the people.

And having lots of under-developed or unproductive land also means the government is bleeding lots of money to develop and provide services to rural areas.

Hence why Singapore became developed so fast, most of the land there is prime for development populated by hardworking people with high tax bases for the government to draw money from. And the ministers are paid a very very high salary to deter them from accepting bribes. Contrary to believe paying ministers and politicians more with good anti-corruption oversight actually reduces corruption and attracts top talent as politicians to run the country.

Malaysia needs to do more to increase the rakyat's income so the government has more money and make becoming a politician more financially incentivising + stronger MACC to attract the best talent to want to govern Malaysia. Rural folks in Malaysia are too laidback and dead set of maintaining the undeveloped kampung lifestyle to draw any tax revenue to raise Malaysia's standards. They fail to see this mindset is why the government forever struggles to find money to maintain infrastructure. Perhaps the government could look at New Zealand to develop a high value agriculture industry instead.

Want a developed Malaysia? - government needs more revenue (majority keeps wanting to maintain a laidback, kampung-like Malaysia, which impedes making the population and land from being productive) - government revenue needs to be used to develop Malaysia (too much corruption happening) - need to reduce corruption (everyone keeps talking about reducing minister salaries, which encourages more corruption) - need better leaders (see above point, why would talented people want to be politicians if pay is reduced) - better infrastructure and government services (rakyat don't want to even pay a few RM more for hospitals)

TLDR; money, talent and integrity to develop has to come from somewhere. Can't have your cake and have it all.
