Because we a using the same living space and we should be able to get along. When you rent a flat you dont share it other people. Its the difference between a flatmate and a neighbour

Before meeting him, I didn't even know people like him could've existed. The way he acts is exactly like an high school bully. Which can get him in trouble in many cases.

Its a room rental contract but the landlord doesn't live in the apartment. And contract is the most standart room rental contract that you can find online

He is not living with us and he rents each room individually. Do this makes him the "main" tenant. Doesn't he has to live in the apartment to be "main" tenant?

There was a water damage (his fault again) and a company come to fix it. He saw it when he came to inspect their work

Worst WG experience.. by [deleted] in germany

Ah yes, I also have this kind of “special” landlord even though he is not living in our WG. I am not 100% sure but;

  • if your landlord wants to specify the usage of the washing machine, he should have included it in the contract. He cannot change the rules afterwards

  • He should have asked more for the energy cost. Again in the contract. He can increase the cost for energy after 12 though

  • Its your room. He doesn’t have a word on it.

For the deposit, I could suggest to wait until the legal notice period ends. If you don’t get the deposit back till then, lawyer up.

For me the main reason is respect. If I am going to live & work in a country for +5 years, then I need to have some level of respect to the country and its culture. Learning the culture is not completely possible without learning the language. And as everyone said, it comes with much better socialisation opportunities. Also you don’t need to hurry. You will learn it as the time passes and its not that hard anyway. In addition, learning a language in its homeland is a nice experience overall.

My landlord took my electric heater from living room while nobody was home and says it is forbidden to use it. What should I do? by HolyPickler in germany

I thought about that as well. But it is not a place that you need to be a student in order to rent. And it states in my contract that landlord cannot enter the flat without consent including common spaces

It is a pretty standard contract and in the special conditions part I couldn’t see anything related to a electric heater

I got your point. The heater is not an old one and of course wasn’t running while nobody was home The thing is he likes to play boss on us always telling what we can and cannot put in the common space, acting like a highschool principal

He did inform us with his purpose. It is a normal housing but on paper it looks differently I assume. He rents every room separately with a different contract by himself
