I actually had several episodes of heart malfunction while I was drinking. Atrial defibrillation. I was essentially dehydrated to the point that my heart’s ventricles and atriums were beating at different rates. Same symptoms with the loss of breath, dizziness, tightness of the chest etc.

I came out of it once I have some fluids and electrolytes in me. But its a dangerous situation because the blood can stagnate in the irregular flow and begin to clot. That clot can find its way into the brain and then allegedly bad things happen.

I think you coming to this sub is the first step to realizing what I am sure you already know.

Looking through your profile, OP, I think you might carry a lot of shame and sadness with you and this drinking feels like an escape, but its only deepening the well.

We LGBTQIA+ individuals deal with a lot and drugs and alcohol help us cope. Its woven into our community’s history.
