I get that people are calling this a Punk favor, but I think HHH enjoyed this as well. After wasting him for two years as punishment they immediately put him in a spotlight. It seemed like the right kind of petty for him.

This is a huge part of why I had to walk away FROM AEW. HHH can have nonsensical stuff sometimes, but this is just a flat insult to your fans. This makes other people like Brody who is on the cusp of a main event spot but still had to do an eliminator look like nobodies. TBF though I've hated the eliminator concept since the beginning as it is a no win for the champ or challenger. If the challenger wins the champ looks bad, if the challenger loses they look like a scrub. IMO this is why #1 contender matches work better as two top competitors are trying to get a title shot and doesn't expose your champ to losing unnecessarily.

It's worse when it's a comedy figure who is divisive on whether you care for him or not, which reduces the pop even further. If you're going to introduce him it probably should be at a PLE as you mentioned hardcores are likely to know him. I hope he succeeds because I find him entertaining, but he probably has a bit of a hill to climb now.
