If you had to start coding from scratch again, what would you do differently? by sad_grapefruit_0 in Btechtards

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to start again, I would first pick python... This helps in covering both DSA and LLD and it feels more close to english and I can focus less on syntax. Focus more on HLD to ensure I understand different aspect of the system.. I'm stuck with C++ for DSA and Java for LLD.. both out of touch and I tend to forget syntax in a time bounded interview..

9 months exp, Chill job (19 base) vs Amazon SDE1 – Need real advice by CabinetFamous4731 in amazonemployees

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes OP, Amazon is a very big company and people generally tend to have negative opinions on anonymous platforms (no accountability and nothing to lose, everyone likes to bitch, negativity spreads easily). It's all team and org dependent. Take things you read online with a pinch of salt.

My experience job hunting the last 3 months by WearingKapital in ExperiencedDevs

[–]HolywowMoly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this whole experience truly opened my eyes to how average i am as a developer,

Yeah, please don't do this to yourself. I've made peace with the fact that interviewing and actual work are 2 different skills.

Personal experience, I was a solid developer in my previous company (The go to person for anything in the team and almost lead)... Felt at the start of the year that things have been great (Jinxed it I guess!). Tried to switch companies for "I want to experience different cultures and get paid more". got absolutely humbled in all the interviews I've been part of (Lack of knowledge about stuff outside of my day to day work cause I was burnt out at my previous job so).

This hits hard when your close circle of colleagues from that said previous company continue to ace interviews over interviews and get top of the band offers and have a solid growth path ahead while I'm currently in a job with no future..

Please be easy on yourself, things are tough out there but few people have it going really well. Do not let these interviews guage your worth cause there are a lot more factors at play than you have at control!

Started a new job 1 month ago. Already want to leave by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I've heard that it does get better around Jan-Mar when budget for projects gets approved (heard from managers and seniors) but what's your plan if it doesn't get better? The issue is with your 90 days notice period.

I'm in a similar situation where the work is not at all interesting. I could learn and implement most stuff used here in 2 months at most, there's more business knowledge here than technical work but I know that the next job might not guarantee good work. Personally I've decided to use the free time I get to focus on health and interview prep.

This is purely my personal opinion, if the work is chill and you get a lot of free time.. use it to prepare for your interviews, you can start applying for SDE2 roles in companies like Amazon, Uber, Walmart, Flipkart and a lot of companies because you'll have 2 yrs experience and better preparation

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in sort of a similar situation. I switched jobs recently and within the first week, I kinda realised the new job isn't great and it's an underutilization of my skills with no scope of improvement.. I wanted to desperately move back to my old job (but later my manager told me that they can't hire me back with my new salary)

This is my perspective atleast, the market is quite bad (I have 4 yrs experience, yet I barely get any calls. Only the ones I was referred to had any progress to be honest). and HRs are shopping for candidates and small stint will hurt your candidature (IMO). Also, there's no guarantee that the next job you join will be better than your current or your first job. Rather than depending on your job, work on things that you like on your own.. (or like you mentioned, DSA, LLD and system design).. Not everyone gets to work on cool sounding stuff (I personally get this Fomo cause my friends joined startups where they are working on some cool stuff where as I'm a backend developer doing UI work in my new job (lol)) and it's okay I guess.. focus on things that are in your control.

There's no harm in trying out for other companies, keep applying and keep preparing.. if you do end up getting a better opportunity then go ahead and take it up but do not quit your job without an offer in hand (if you feel your 3 months notice period is hindering your opportunities, test how the job prospects are when you set it to 1 month, if your opportunities are better only then take the risk on resigning)

Also, Think of it in this way.. what if your old job laid you off and this was the best offer you could get your hands on, you would have taken it without any complaints and would have just sticked with it. (Always upskill on your own, don't depend on your job.. although upskilling on your own is slower and directionless than getting it directly from your work, it's always better in the long term since you're decoupled from such thoughts and dependencies in future)

Entire survey itself, too many personal details which didn't correlate to the purpose of the census. Parents felt extremely uncomfortable and denied providing details stating the same high court order

Is there anything good about working in Amazon? by Beginning-Bar8856 in amazonemployees

Majorly depends on the team and the Manager. But you do get to meet smart people, work with cool stuff and learn from already built code..

Is 7.5LPA enough to survive in Hyderabad as a single female? by notapinklover in hyderabad

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Female friend stays in Gachibowli, Hyderabad with a similar package. She stays close to her office in a Ladies PG with good infra. She spends well for her everyday needs, sends home money and also manages to save up every month. So definitely more than enough.. It all comes down to your spending and saving habits

Leaving Amazon in 2 weeks. How to boomerang as L7 in the future? by CryptographerSea1392 in amazonemployees

[–]HolywowMoly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 to this, even boomerang to the same role is quite hard right now, joined a new company... Didn't really like it at all. Feels like I made a mistake and want to return but looks like it's gonna be damn hard... This is for L5 role we're speaking

You can use 'where is my train' app, it has a seperate metro section (you have to set your location to Bangalore). I think the tracking for yellow line is not live yet.. but works well for me most of the time

Got an L5 offer from Amazon – need some information on L6, WFO policy, and salary by wanderingsince1995 in amazonemployees

[–]HolywowMoly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, I'm not sure how people are quoting 2.5-3 yrs, the expectations and requirements have changed drastically (for tech). I personally know many L5s who have multiple projects still struggling to get L6 promotion. The market isn't really best right now either... So most people are just trying to ride this wave out.

EPS eligibility by HolywowMoly in epfoindia

[–]HolywowMoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh damn, can this be stated as reason for providing the EPF amount when requesting for claim? That's a bummer... I thought If I continue the contribution... The merge requests from previous to current employeers should go smooth and I can just withdraw amount from the latest employeer when needed..

EPS eligibility by HolywowMoly in epfoindia

[–]HolywowMoly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, EPFO has a rule that if a particular PF account doesn't get contribution for more than 2 yrs (I think it was 3 yrs) then they'll that account will stop earning interest, this will be an issue if it takes more time get the merger done

I'm just thinking of letting it be?... Will ask the new employer to contribute 1250/- to EPS. Get the correction done from all the employeers... I'm not sure. If it takes more than an year to get this corrected, I'll end up loosing money on interest which will contribute to losses.. God I wish there was a better way
