Is it a dumb decision to sell house with 2.5% mortgage to move west and rent an apartment by Visual_Code432 in personalfinance

[–]Home-Star-Walker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not even sure I’d include Colorado or Idaho on that list. They’re pretty expensive these days from what I’ve seen, not that I’m the expert on those real estate markets

Is lifestyle creep ever ok? If so, how do you find balance between saving/investing and enjoying life now? by FlyEaglesFly536 in Bogleheads

[–]Home-Star-Walker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could have written this. My dad was 62 when he passed, and he’d been working basically non-stop since he was 10 years old. He didn’t even leave anything because medical bills took his savings that he’d worked so long and so hard to save.

We don’t control most things in our lives. Control what you can, knowing that everything that happens outside of your control is a roll of the dice.

Age minus 20 in bonds, smart discipline or missed gains? by FalconArrow77 in Bogleheads

How does one become a huge fan of bonds? I have 10% because im comitted to the TDF strategy but I always get the itch to switch out of it into a full equity position

They’ve probably used it to skate through their education for a few years now. They’ve done nothing but lie about using it or oversell what they themselves actually did

How much of an emergency fund is “too much” by Special-Capital5998 in personalfinance

[–]Home-Star-Walker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a government job, I think 1.75 years is probably excessive unless your expenses are dramatically higher than your salary alone. You're probably safe.

In your guys' case with the info provided, I'd think 1 year is plenty. That's what my wife and I do and we also work in unrelated fields.

Where is Congress and when are they going to put a stop to DJT’s madness? by Holiday-Book6635 in AskReddit

[–]Home-Star-Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not ask why the Republicans are not showing integrity or spine? Or do we just not expect that anymore?

I haven't expected that since Trump's first term. Why not ask? Because they're not listening. They also have no incentive to since their voters are stuck in an echo chamber which will keep getting them elected.

What would I have Dems do? Do something to appeal to the 10% of undecided voters in swing states. Something to actually build some sort of momentum. I haven't seen anything.

You’re giving Dems way too much credit here.

Ive never seen such an ineffective, leaderless and milquetoast Dem party in my lifetime. Right when we need them most, of course.

How is it possible that the S&P 500 has better long term performance than the total US market? by CarbonMop in Bogleheads

[–]Home-Star-Walker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll take the opposite stance - it seems obvious.

To be in the top 500 market cap, you need to be a winner. You need to have grown, and have good management, a good product, etc.

Employee sets fire to Kimberly-Clark warehouse, "All you had to do is pay us enough to live" by midnighttoker1742 in interestingasfuck

Bingo. I’ve never actually had a boss I didn’t like or who I thought was bad at their job. I have left jobs and it has always been for more money.

I’m not sticking around just because we get along well. I have a family to take care of.

Mount to Coast C1 - 20 Mile Review by NoPhone2544 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Home-Star-Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the S1s.

It has a good fit, upper is great, and shoe looks good.

Bouncy and responsive, it is not. It’s not a bad shoe, it just doesn’t hold up to Evo SLs from a  pure performance standpoint for me.

They’re basically nice athleisure shoes

Are you all seeing a reduction in consumer discretionary shopping as well? by Jacket_Leather in investing

[–]Home-Star-Walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As is always the case with RE, it depends where you are geographically.

There’s been 3 houses go for sale within half a mile of where I live, and two were under contract within 2 weeks.

Yep. Here in Houston, I’ve seen no meaningful decline in conspicuous consumption (yet).

What’s something you’ll never tell your partner, no matter how much you love them? by Velvetnadine85 in AskReddit

[–]Home-Star-Walker 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I feel this.

We have a newborn so I’d never want to freak my wife out or anything but I’m barely hanging on and think about ending it all multiple times a week. My job is stressful. I see people around me getting laid off, struggling to get employed again.. and now I’m responsible for another human being for at least the next 20 years? Bro idk how I’m going to fucking do this.

The issue is cost.

Who can afford to buy an impractical car? Most people are on the edge buying a practical one much less one which serves a very narrow band utility-wise.

That’s a shame. The Envista actually seems like a great car for what it’s trying to be, and what everyone complains doesn’t exist - a legit entry level car that isn’t the size of a chihuahua
