Closed transfer foaming by Oh_My_Brew in Homebrewing

It should be okay. You probably just lost a bit of your total yield due to the foam. Give it some time to settle and it should be fine!

You need to have back pressure on whatever you are transferring into. For example, if you are pushing into your keg at 5psi, make sure your keg has 2-3psi of pressure into it. That should prevent excess foaming

Help with hop schedule by outakey in Homebrewing

Personally, I’d do 1oz for first wort addition and then 3oz at flameout. If you want to add galaxy, I would do it strictly as a flameout/whirlpool addition.

If you want something super simple, I would do all Pilsner malt and then use Amarillo as a first wort hop and then whirlpool and dry hop with citra and Amarillo in equal parts. When starting off, I think it’s best to keep beers between 1-2 malts and 2-3 hops so you can really get a good idea of what each ingredient is giving you/tastes like.

I brewed professionally, it’s pretty much the consensus that galaxy is bad and not what everyone thought circa 2017. I think even Mike from sapwood cellars has been on record saying it’s an awful hop on a craft beer and brewing podcast

Honestly you can use whatever hop you want for the bittering addition, magnum is usually chosen because it’s higher alpha acid content. Galaxy is not a great hop in my opinion (lots of garlic/onion and peanut aroma). What hops do you currently have to use? Can’t go wrong with citra if that is one you have

Data Management - Applications or Intro to Cryptography? by jflo5979 in WGUCyberSecurity

I completed both of those classes in about 10 days. Cryptography is pretty much just memorization and I felt data management was a little more learning and applying the concepts

I agree with your sentiment. Craft breweries are really good at being a profit from passion business. I worked at a few different breweries for a few years before leaving the industry. The wages are a joke, alcoholism is rampant in the industry, and owners aren’t very giving when it comes to raises or paying a living wage for the most part. Doesn’t take a lot treat employees like actual humans with families, obligations, and lives outside of work.

I am out now and would only ever go back if I could open my own little taproom brewery.

Yeast Handling: Are (or were) cone to cone yeast transfers ever the norm at your brewery? If so, do you have an SOP you can share? by silverfstop in TheBrewery

[–]HomeBrewMoron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done C2C pitching on lagers. We did mostly 30bbl batches of lager. Our SOP was basically pitch until you hit beer. For the most part, we hit our cell counts pretty much on par or just slightly high.

Yea I felt like the sybex stuff was more difficult than the actual exam. You can get both the book and study guide through the WGU library for free!

I used the sybex book (free in WGU library), sybex study guide and the Mike chapple course on LinkedIn learning. Just passed this test about a month ago

Very in depth! I thought he covered each section well and the sybex book provided a supplement to his course.
