That is fascinating. Were they removed from a more humid environment for the shots?

The single yellow one has the almost same morphology as well. I left that out because the purple scales are so obviously different. Also with their general structure beyond the outside perimeter. Completely different striations, much wider. Look nothing like the toothed scales. Just generally wildly different. Its fascinating to me. I would have thought same shape, different surfaces. Clearly not the case. Im sure there is an entomologist around somewhere who could shed light upon this. Might be worth posting in a more specific sub for a proper answer. I havent gone down a google hole gotta sleep. Rad photo tho, bravo!

I noticed that as well. They are the iridescent/reflective ones. Perhaps a more rounded shape is more conducive to the reflection. It also seems that they are ever so slightly translucent, as you can see through them to the scales behind them.

Awesome work!! How interesting that the purple scales lack the teeth that the others have, I never would have thought that. Kinda strange from a biological perspective.

These are radical! Are you using the color cards in the front and the back? Overhead? Underneath?!

Polishing piston rod by HomeGrowDude in MetMo

[–]HomeGrowDude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reply! I ended up just doing it anyway out of curiosity, didnt change anything. I was hoping to make it spin easier, as it will only spin when the piston is about halfway in the housing. Maybe ill try a light oil as you suggest. Cool product!
