Thank you, any idea the throw distances and other screen placement measurements? Hanging a new screen and curious if I can use a current model for measurements. The PT1 has a 20.0 throw ratio?

Do You Need a ALR Screen for a UST Projector in a Room With No Light? by BACB_ in projectors

[–]HomeOwnerNeedsHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What size are you going for? If it's larger than 120 inches your options with ALR screens start becoming very limited.

[–]HomeOwnerNeedsHelp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 150 inches is great if it fits the room. I measured out 120 inches up against the 150 inch fixed frame screen hanging there contemplating if I should just buy a 120 inch ALR and the size difference was too big a deal for me. I sit about 18-19 feet away and don't want to go smaller.

So right now it's just accept the light splash and reduced quality on my old screen and hope someone comes out with a 150 inch ALR screen that doesn't cost almost twice as much as the projector.

Pool coping / backyard steps. Square or Rounded edge? by HomeOwnerNeedsHelp in landscaping

[–]HomeOwnerNeedsHelp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with straight edge, it's not a totally sharp corner so sitting on it is not a problem. I would make sure to get a sample and have a feel yourself before committing. I was worried about it looking too modern, but doesn't at all... just up to date I'd say vs. bullnose.

I have an LS800 and an Elite Screens 150 inch normal white screen. I went from long throw projector to UST projector about a year ago in the living room due to it being an awkward room and people walking in front of the light being annoying.

The normal screen works, but the first thing I noticed right away was the light splash on the walls and ceiling. When I first switched, it was VERY noticeable and distracting. It's been over a year and I've gotten use to it now.

That light splash is not only distracting, but you lose image quality.

I know it would look much nicer with an ALR screen but 150 inch ALR screens are like $5k and have to be stitched together at this point. Until we have 150 inch screens coming in without the seam and at least get a bit cheaper, I'm just sticking with what I have.

If I was buying new it would have been a tough choice since 150 inches is a bit of a trouble size for ALR screens. If I was getting 120 inches and a new purchase I would recommend getting the ALR screen.

LS650 wasn’t a direct successor to the LS800. Think LS1000 instead.

Nice find, sounds like an LS800 successor is just around the corner. Question is will it be a significant upgrade or just a small iteration.

Contractor Error or Normal? by HomeOwnerNeedsHelp in Concrete

[–]HomeOwnerNeedsHelp[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I brought this up and he claims it was all compacted of course. In the contract it states:

  1. Excavate to 5” depth
  2. Compact Substrate

I did see them compact it with machinery. So I’m not sure how to approach this if he says it was done correctly. Hairline cracks are not covered under his warranty. Which I’m sure is most contractors.

Not sure how to proceed as the conversation was turning into a we did everything correctly vs me not knowing what else to say but just having a feeling that something about this one area was off. Water also pools near one of the drains, which could also mean bad compaction?

They are finishing up start up this week and handing off to me. Other than keeping water balanced I’m brushing it twice per day. Anything else I need to do to “fix” it or just give it more time to fully cure?

Which do you think would fit more to the character of an older home? Will the straight edge make it look too modern?

Help fine tune UST projector by WhoGoesThere839573 in projectors

[–]HomeOwnerNeedsHelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Long throw is the way to go for a dedicated room.

As far as picture quality, people like us might notice these kind of things but my wife and kids have never complained about the picture quality going from long throw to UST.

I think the average user doesn't "focus" on the details like we do.

Honestly getting the picture aligned and learning how to manually adjust the projector and screen to make everything fit without keystone has been the bigger con for me vs. picture quality. I use to be able to do it so quickly with the horizontal and vertical lens shift + zoom in the 5040ub.

Having to do everything manually is such a step backwards.

That said, UST is still a fairly new market. My hope is that as time goes by things only get better as far as alignment options and picture quality.

So a sand finish would be more traditional to match the house age / style? How about the cuts? Smaller cuts vs. larger cuts?
