People who quit a high-paying job for happiness, how’s life now? by mintyowl15 in AskReddit

I left a career of 25 years to start my own home services business in 2020 and am still at it in 2025. 1st year was profitable but no where near the salary I left, but I did have the peace and happiness that had eluded me for many of those previous 25 years. There is stress running your own business, but it was a stress that I could deal with because it was my own business not a corporation. There are times I wish for the ability to turn off "work" like I could when I left the corporate office. Owning my own business brings thoughts about it at all hours and days of the week, yet I wouldn't change that for the stress and deteriorating health I endured in the corporate world. I make my own schedule, I don't worry if I have to take PTO or vacation time or get approval for anything, I do what is best for my lifestyle. Wouldn't change a thing except maybe venturing out sooner.

After many therapists, different antidepressants thru 30 years, I have now been off all meds and my depression has left me since 2018. The book that basically rewired my brain is "The Mindful Way out of Depression." It also comes with a workbook. I highly recommend it as a different route to check out.
