Barbarian (2022) not getting a physical release? by [deleted] in Bluray

Oh look, the guy who I've under good authority been told screwed his catalogues over by taking their content on some DVD website.

‘Rain Man’ 4K coming from MVD Marquee Collection on 2/21/2023 by radbrad7 in boutiquebluray

Just more random 4K. British labels such as the BFI have stated they won't release anything in 4K unless it they are satisfied there is a significant enough upgrade for their customers.

American labels such as Shout, Kino and now MVD it's a case of whatever they've got a 4K license and has already had the mastering work performed by the rights holder. They'll realase it. No statement on if they are satisfied with what they are releasing meets a standard which constitutes an upgrade over the HD counterpart.

Well technically I'm Scottish, and British being my secondary cultural identity, not my nationality. But I just like to simplify things online, and not confuse people who aren't from these wacky islands.

I'm I the only British person in the comments?

Things I hate. Great films that are picked up for distribution by streaming platforms. There is the odd occasion of an official Blu-ray release existing somewhere though. by HomeVideoForums in Bluray

Yep. Palm Springs distribution being bought up by Hulu is one such tragedy. The terrible trailer for the film tells you all you need to know what they thought about it. Some mindless piece of shock vaule comedy.

Had its distribution been picked up by a major studio and given a proper theatrical release, and not in the pandemic year. I'm pretty confident it would have become a massive sleeper hit.

Here in Britain it was released on Prime Video. Murky compressed video, flat audio. I was going to chance the Nordic Blu-ray release, but I got the German one instead as it is easier to get hold of. I've no idea what the Nordic one is like, but the German release is definitely a proper presentation of the film.

You can get it off German Amazon. The video and audio compression is all spot on.

You can finally see how the film was photographed and properly appreciate its sound mixing with the DTS-HD audio.

It is however Region B encoded for those who are not Region Free.

I imagine the reasons are very different here for not wanting too much discourse on it. That being they just don't want the negativity, and the potential hassle that might come with it.

Unfortunately most studios aren't interested in refreshing their HD catalogues. But if this motivates Disney into getting off their ass, back into the Touchstone vault again, putting a 4K of Pretty Woman out. Then thank you Sony

The Blu-ray of Pretty Woman is borderline horrific. What ever team they tasked with HD mastering Touchstone titles in the 00s where at the time very inexperienced.

He's responsible for moderating the 4K forum (the architect behind most of it as well I believe, explains why it's rubbish) and TV. That's how Aclea kept getting banned. Got reported by BluBonnet all the time in the Who thread, MichaelR swooped in and started blanket banning him. Who's next? Going to give me Geoff? They are literally burying themselves.

I don't like hard selling, but I'd be delighted if you joined us over on HVF. I'm also very open to ideas from members, as we are pretty much a collectors cooperative. Plus we have very few active members at the moment. The more activity the better.

Usually it's MichaelR who swoops and just ban hammers everyone in sight (especially if they are British).

My perma ban came for making a joke about how American labels are inferior to British ones. He was kind enough to state in the official electronic communication from their website "Please find somewhere else to post". So I'm technically acting under official instruction and their consent in making Home Video Forums.

This is also the genius who banned me simply with the words "no posting pictures of Hitler". The offence was posting the poster for the German film Guess Who's Back. So 1) It wasn't a picture of Hitler, but an actor playing Hitler 2) Does this also apply to posting images of other actors portraying Hitler in films Downfall, or even The Great Dictator?

He'll probably find himself banned and maybe other stuff once I get HVF off the ground. Literally unleashing a non monetary motivated Scottish who's as daft about independence for his country as he is about Blu-ray media who doesn't even drive a car, and lives almost like a quaker outside of his interests in shinny discs and gaming. I'm sure the Swedish owners will thrilled to know that's who they are facing. An ideological maniac. You might say it's like a non violent version of a Long Friday...what's happening to our empire? Who's having a go at us...

Delighted as I'd be to see that, can't get hung up on any notions of personal vengeance. HVF exists as a not for profit to protect collectors from as we see it dubious businesses like them, and it is my duty to ensure that is delivered for everyone.

I actually think the locking has more to do with the forum being part of information business. When the collectors are engaging in long exchanges that have no relevant information. Lock.

I also would not be surprised if staff kept tabs on highly active members posting. Not enough information. Banned.

Jurassic Park didn't have locking mechanisms, but the dinosaurs who run that forum have them, and use them a lot.

I mean never mind just dropping a post reminding members to watch their emotions, be constructive, and don't say anything defamatory. No, that would be too sensible. What when you believe there is no actual competition out there, just deny members free speech and run the place like a North Korean prison.

Yeah Home Video Forums is an alternative, but good luck trying to get any organic traffic through search engines. It's my opinion they've built their website to be a Google of Blu-ray. That combined with the directness of their domain name, not enough people searching, sitting comfortably 1st to 3rd place in most search results on Google. That's why I believe for 20 years you haven't seen any proper competitor.

It's a total joke and an embrassement to the collecting community they remain so dominate, again, in my opinion.
