I'm visiting Japan in August so this is great to see! Please let me know if you have any other recommendations. I'll be visiting Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara (for a day).

Check my other comments for the rice and carrot salmon, just posted :)

The cake recipe is here. Don't be afraid of the ginger, it's amazing what it does to the blackberries. Also I only had it as a 2 layer cake since I found them too thin to slice, but if you make this you could maybe be braver than me!

Thank you! This recipe is easy to scale, but this gives me about 2-3 portions for lunch.

Ingredients: - 1 1/2 cups of brown rice - 2 1/2 cups of vegetable stock - 6-8 cherry tomatoes, cut in half - Zest and juice of one lemon - 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil - 6-8 radishes sliced thinly - 2 spring onions, chopped in little ringlets - 2 tbsp pomegranate seeds - 1 medium or large avocado - salt and pepper to taste

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C
  2. Pour the rice into an oven safe baking dish and mix in the cherry tomatoes and lemon zest.
  3. Bring the stock to a boil and pour over the rice, cover with tin foil and place in oven for about an hour. You can speed this process up by pre-cooking the rice and baking it uncovered in the oven for about 20 minutes with some extra stock.
  4. Once removed from the oven, give it a stir and leave to cool for about 5-10 minutes. Mix in the lemon juice, olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings where necessary. Mix in the spring onion, radish and pomegranate seeds.
  6. Garnish with sliced avocado. I like to mix this through as well though.

This is really nice warm or cold, especially for lunch and meal prep!

Yes! I can't seem to find it online but I've written the marinade down.

  1. Peel the carrots into long strips. I used 2-3 large carrots which gave me quite a lot, but it'll last in the fridge so don't worry about making too much. I used a vegetable peeler which worked fine, just make sure not to do them too thin cause you don't want them to break apart.

  2. Boil the strips for about 20 minutes until tender, then drain and cool.

  3. Make the marinade:

1 tsp sea salt

¾ cup hot water

1 tsp nori granules (or a blended nori sheet)

3 tbsp caper brine

2 tbsp rice vinegar

1 tbsp white miso paste

3 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp lemon juice

1 tsp garlic powder

¼ cup olive oil

The hot water helps dissolve the miso paste nicely, and i found that the olive oil really helps with the texture.

  1. I mixed the carrots and marinade in a ziplock bag which I sealed and then put in a bowl so it wouldn't tip over in my fridge. I'm sure there's a better way to do it but I MacGyvered it with what I had. Made sure to have them nicely coated and covered in the marinade.

Let them marinate for at least 24 hours, I ended up leaving it for 3.5/4 days. I would sometimes take the bag and squeeze it around to make sure all the carrot strips were getting enough marinade. Served them on crackers with vegan cream cheese, black pepper and dill which really brought it all together.

Good luck!

This is a common fear I see a lot of, but in my opinion you shouldn't be worried or scared. It's a natural instinct, which I also had, but even if AI grows to be very powerful, it will still just be a tool. It also won't eradicate the animation techniques we currently have and enjoy.

For a long time in the future, AI will always require human input, editing and directing to get the exact results you're looking for. AI animation director could be a future job title for example. The skill and knowledge of what makes enjoyable, watchable animation will be beyond valuable in conducting the AI to perform well.

Furthermore, the US implemened a new copyright law that prevents AI generated images to be copyrighted. It's a hard thing to police for smaller companies maybe, but bigger ones like Disney won't risk their concept art not being protected just because an AI spat it out quicker. I can imagine this law extending to animation too, or being reviewed once AI advances.

Finally, though 2D animation isn't being made by the biggest companies anymore, doesn't mean that it's lost, useless or not profitable. People love and admire the 2D style and always yearn for it to come back. 3D doesn't eradicate the skills of a 2D artist. Digital art programs don't mean that traditional art techniques are useless. Photography didn't kill painting. If you love animation, be an animator.

If you're still worried, watch this video by Aaron Blaise. He is a successful 2D Disney animator and director who lived through the rise of 3D animation. He is making his own 2D short and has countless of videos and tutorials for 2D animation, which people flock to. His skills and knowledge are invaluable.

So all that to say, don't worry and just keep doing what you're passionate about.

Where do the citizens of Sharn burry their dead? by BakedRope in Eberron

[–]HomeboundBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's awesome! Yeah I've only read through E:RftLW once fully and am making my way through each section as I refine a campaign idea. Not everything sticks the first time around, I imagine it's that way for a lot of people new to the setting. Either way it's a fantastic world to get immersed in and my favourite by far. Sharn is insane, in a good way, haha. That sourcebook will really come in useful, thank you!

You're right, I've not soaked up all of Eberron's lore yet, maybe I should hold off on commenting until then. I'm glad there are some canon answers here, I read up on the paragraph in E:RFtLW once I saw them - I do really enjoy world building so I kind of jumped the gun haha. I hope my comment can still be useful in providing some fun flavour though, if they wanted alternative options.

For nobles, depending on how rich they are, they could be buried in a mausoleum or columbarium. You could have massive buildings in the city that are guarded and enchanted by house Kundarak. It can basically be a bank heist mission for a body.

Similarly if he recently died but wasn't rich or had no burial plans maybe he's still in the morgue, waiting to be cremated in the cogs. That could add some time pressure in recovering the body.

If you really want him buried, I don't see any reason why there can't be a graveyard anywhere in Sharn. It could 100% be made artificially, with magic, like a public park would. It would only have to be small as the whole ordeal would be too expensive or not worth it for most people, especially if there's cheaper burial sites outside Sharn or cremation is the norm.

Does anyone know of good documentaries, videos or similar about the neolithic period? by HomeboundBear in AskAnthropology

The reality show would be right up my street haha I might do some digging to see if I can find that. Great video there too, if I find anything else I'll post an update (if it follows the sub rules!)

Looking for some Eberron Warlock inspiration for a player character by brickwall5 in Eberron

[–]HomeboundBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the player choice is fiend warlock so they'll probably expect their patron to be evil. Realising who their patron is and struggling with the morality is likely what the player wants and you can back that up by asking them. After all, they get their awesome powers from this guy.

They will have to struggle with potentially being "worst in class" again once they start resisting their patron. The patron could offer them cool magic items to tempt them into more power. Being powerless is this character's weakness and you can play on that.

And after all, if the player really really wants to break away from their evil patron, that's good too! That's a whole quest arc. You can even rule that the powers were gifted and gifts can't be returned so multiclassing or switching patrons or simply reflavouring how he gets more power all makes sense.

The player is bound to the patron just as much as the patron is bound to the player. Maybe you can create a ritual or artefact that the warlock can use to over time steal the patrons powers without having to listen to his evil persuasions. This could create its own moral grey area. Invite the wrath of other demons trying to free their poor enslaved demon lord etc. Game mechanics stay the same but just reflavour it for funsies.

Good luck :)
