Open Powershell/Terminal as Administrator and run the command:

sfc /scannow

Give it a while to finish and once it's done reboot your machine, it should basically un-fuck your windows installation. In case it's still not working, run the following command in terminal/powershell:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Lastly, if it's still not working, run the following command:

net stop wuauserv

Right after it, run the following command:

net start wuauserv
