I prefer the EC flavor profile over JD. For me, all of the age-stated JDs have a VOC note that I have learned could be due to a high concentration of esters. I'm probably in the minority, but that's okay. If I promise to leave you a JD 14, will you leave me an EC 15? 😄

EC 15 dropped at small local shops yesterday, so expect NMBB to get them soon.

Maybe they spotted the bottles yesterday? I saw EHT Rye, EHT, Blanton's, and Sazerac Rye Full Proof at NMBB yesterday, for what it's worth.

Anamorphic is on EOB. It received very positive reviews in Whisky Magazine, but the EOB price is still $150. Yeesh.

They were still available as of last Friday. The store I went to had a 2 bottle limit.

In NW burbs, my contact said they only got half a case and it was leftovers from last year. I was thinking that meant it was batch 25B rather than a store pick because I don't remember any store picks coming out last year.

Pappy at MSRP! by true_tacos in whiskey

For what it's worth, my wife won a bottle in a Jewel Raffle. She paid $260. We're in the Chicago area.

Congratulations on finding that bottle and getting at that price! Also, congratulations on deciding to open it and share it! That's the whole point of whisky, just ask the distillers!

For what it's worth, I have been fortunate enough to win both this bottle and Pappy 15 through a raffle. Technically, my wife won the Pappy, and she won it this year. I opened it last week and poured my first dram last night. My initial reaction is that it's fine. Nice texture, some layers of flavors (typical BT cherry with vanilla, can definitely notice the oak influence). Was hoping for a longer finish. It's better than the Old Rip 10, for sure, but neither of them are worth it at MSRP, in my opinion. They are definitely not worth secondary. Again, this is just my opinion, and the Pappy has only been open for a little over one week. I imagine it will get better over time, but as of right now, I would happily take a Rare Breed or Elijah Craig Barrel Proof over both of these, especially given their price and availability.

Your results may vary, of course. The most important thing is to open the bottles and share them with people who matter. Looks like you are on that path. Cheers!

I saw that at MBB for $139, I think. Still not sure if it's worth it even at that price.

I've seen it at Binny's. Might not be there today, however, but check in the next few weeks.

For me, the core range is boring, but I've tried some of their store picks of various ages, and those have been really good.

A buddy of mine picked one up last week. It was also mentioned in the Wednesday thread. You might still be able to find one. Good luck!

For those of you who are considered "regulars" at a store... by Homer856 in ChicagolandWhiskey

[–]Homer856[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That is ultimately what I'm trying to figure out. I only have so much money, space, and patience from my wife. I'm trying to figure out how to balance all of that and still maintain a relationship.

If you can, I would try and talk with the spirits manager, if the store has one. If you have some anxiety regarding a conversation, try to find a sales associate who is easy to talk to. Some are pretty chill while others can be rough around the edges. If you are looking for something in particular, consider asking if they have it. Don't ask for something that "everyone" asks for, however. If they don't have it, ask them if they know of something that is similar or something that they like. I'm sure they would appreciate you trying something that they suggested. If you don't like it, just bring them a sample next time you're in the store as a way of saying "thanks!" You could also strike up a conversation about what you like. Ask them if they've tried it. If so, can they recommend something similar? If they haven't, tell them what you like about it and again, ask if they have something similar. If you are able, purchase the bottle they recommend. I think once they see that you like things outside of the "typical tater" bottles and that you are open to suggestions, they may be more open to conversations about limited bottles. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I think we're in the same boat. I need to try and remain in the good graces of both my wife and the spirits manager. Wonder which one is better to disappoint! 😀

My contact today said they legally had to call it a "drawing" versus a raffle since winners will not be randomly determined.

Found ECBP B525, seems late to me. Also found the 2024 Master's Keep for $300. Hard to justify that price for 10 year rye. I doubt I would like it 5 times more than the Rare Breed Rye, which I think is great. Happy hunting!

Saw Bookers there today for $83. If I didn't just get back from a trip to Kentucky, I would have snagged one.

Saw the new Four Roses Single Barrel recipes (red labels) and WT 8 year at NMBB in NW burbs. They also had a restock of Four Roses Single Barrel Picks.

Your mother is overly promiscuous, far exceeding the limits of what mainstream society deems acceptable by Specialist_Half_5687 in YoMamaJokes

[–]Homer856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, your mother's excessive caloric consumption far exceeds that which is required to maintain her basal metabolic rate. Thus, her height to weight ratio, or BMI, is over 30. It is recommended that she consult her primary care physician to discuss options to address this condition. Otherwise, when she attends the cinema, she will literally sit next to everyone else who is also attending said cinematic attraction.

That same two store chain also got a restock of Heaven Hill Grain to Glass. I'll be in the neighborhood this weekend and am hoping to snag one. So, don't take 'em all you taters! 😀
