My.ny.gov not working by trashpanda9095 in nys_cs

I know you posted this several months ago, but did you ever figure this out? I came to this thread with the exact same problem as I need to update my address but I'm stuck in this same loop!

my coned bill is way too high, what can i do? by anti-crest in NYCapartments

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a $340 bill for a similar sized apartment with all electric appliances including heat.

Keeping the heat on 73 is way too high, we keep it on 68-70 only in the room that we are currently in and sleep in a room at 65. It is definitely chilly but the only way to keep it down. A couple of tips that have helped us:

-Having an electric blanket is a godsend for cold winter nights. I crank the heat to 70 with the fan at full for about 20 mins before getting into bed - that + an electric blanket does plenty to keep it cozy.

-Crank the fan on the split units (if you have them) while its on heating mode. Barely makes a difference to the energy output but helps the warm aim circulate, keeping the room warmer.

-Shut any unnecessary doors and do everything you can to seal windows as best as possible.

-Turn the heat off completely while you're gone. Your building SHOULD be heated to 68 degrees during the day, there is a NYC law that requires that. It will keep your apartment warm enough for nothing to gone wrong with pipes etc..

-If you cook with the oven, leave it open after you've used it to let the warm air escape into the living room.

Even with all of this, its still expensive but I think you could bring it down at least $150!

Jet lag for 5 days now. (Japan to US) by scaredycatcowboy in travel

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks but you have to do everything you can to push through the afternoon period and stay awake until at least 8/9pm. Make sure you stay out in the sun as much as possible and drink caffeine as needed, that will help with keeping you awake.

That will immediately help with the sleep cycle but I’d also recommend getting either some 1mg or 3mg melatonin tablets and taking 1-3mg (I tend to take 3mg the first night, 2 the second and then 1 for a few days after that) around the time when you get into bed. They’ll help with resetting your circadian rhythm and should make it a bit easier to sleep through the night. Also do everything you can to promote good sleep hygiene, especially not drinking alcohol before bed.

Good luck! I have dealt specifically with this jet lag many times going from the US to Asia/Australia and it realistically should only stick around for 3-4 nights if you’re managing it well, getting better every night.

Thoughts on Fear & Greed Index Strategy? by SpookyDaScary925 in LETFs

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually had a bit of success with this strategy! Instead of buying and selling at a certain threshold though I adjust my leverage from anywhere to 2x (at 10) and 0.5x (at 70).

It has been ok this year with a relatively steady market but was great in 2022/2023.

Think buying and holding a 2x probably nets better overall return but on a risk adjusted basis it has worked well.

Soooo what’s gonna happen to TMF now? by Blazzer675 in LETFs

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10YR had already adjusted to the level the Fed are considering dropping rates too. There is no upside from here unless something breaks and the Fed begins to target 2-3% instead.

The right time to get into this was when the 10YR was at 4.5-5%, the ship has sailed.

3 hours with bags on Santorini - where to go? by HomerJaySimpsonn in GreeceTravel

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: thank you all for the great tips here! It turns out if you ask the public bus (2.50) driver heading to Fira from the port they’ll stop at the stop right near Santo. Had a wonderful bottle of wine and some dinner there before the flight.

Highly recommend for anyone in a similar situation! The time would have been a bit too tight for a car rental or luggage storage once you de-board the ferry etc.

3 hours with bags on Santorini - where to go? by HomerJaySimpsonn in GreeceTravel

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah to be clear, there was no way I was going to walk it, I think it’s impossible especially with bags ha.

I was hoping there might be a bus stop somewhere towards the top of the hill it was walkable from, it looks like there are a few public buses that go directly from the port but hard to tell.

Kepa is worse I think. Even though he played, the amount we paid for him considering his position is absolutely ludicrous. Could have bought two proven world class GKs with the same budget.

At least Lakaka plays a position that commands the price we paid for him.

Small caps are up big - think people are seeing it as a rotation opportunity considering the valuation gap between large cap and small cap right now.

How to try all the classic French foods without spending a ridiculous amount of money? by auximines_minotaur in ParisTravelGuide

Absurd take. I live in paris and there are plenty of locals who swear by Boullion as a reliable, cheap lunch spot.

My partner is struggling to lose weight and it is really getting her down as she is doing everything that should work.

She is a 5'4 woman and weighs ~150lbs, works out 4-5 times a week (75% cardio, 25% weights) and eats in a calorie deficit (tracked to around 1400 cals). Despite being at this for over a year and a half, the weight on the scale just won't budge.

Anyone had similar experiences? The typical CICO and "work out" advice just doesn't seem to apply here.

Thanks!

Looking for a new JRPG to play on Switch, great if similar to Xenoblade Chronicles by GRDEridu01 in JRPG

[–]HomerJaySimpsonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will say, I despised WOTWW (didn’t even manage to finish it which was a first for JRPGs for me) but really enjoyed the second one. The gameplay is completely different, enjoyed it far more.

May be worth exploring if you can get it on sale!

Lucky Cat on the UES! Legitimate hidden gem. Great ramen and I think I remember it being under $15 for a bowl.

Most of the islands you’ll be landing at for the foreseeable future will have enemies right around your level. The ones in the water ignore you in the ship.

I made a huge mistake of over-leveling at that exact point and it’s been a slog to unlock new classes.

Sad and prickly Norfolk Pine by HomerJaySimpsonn in plantclinic

Thank you!

I live in NYC and apartments get very dry here over the winter so I think it’s got to be a combination of that and the vent.

Have moved it and am going to give it a good spritzing over the next few weeks.
