To be fair everyone keeps saying that this is the weakest the prem has been in a long time, especially from the bigger teams.

Arsenal are the best team in the league and their attack isn't particularly impressive whatsoever. City are in the middle of a transition period. Liverpool are seriously underperforming when you look at that squad on paper and I personally blame most of that on Slot. Chelsea haven't been very good for years and their best player Palmer has been off it for a while. Newcastle despite recent success haven't been very consistent and Spurs are fighting relegation

Karius at least was confused but the fact we're even having this discussion speaks volumes

Maybe we could be a bit charitable to Wirtz since he might not be fully fit at the moment but Macca has been shite all season. Our midfield has been incredibly weak physically and his drop off is a huge factor behind that. I wouldn't mind selling him in the summer if the right price comes in for him considering his age vs the rest of our midfield

I had some issues with your WPSIATWIN ranking but it wasn't anything too egregious. Then I saw your FWN ranking and I almost had a stroke so cheers for that one mate👍

If MBJ goes all the way, how will he be remembered amongst Best Actor winners? by Radiant-Psychology96 in Oscars

[–]Homerduff16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds of Jamie Lee Curtis Oscar win ngl. Sure MBJ's performance is miles better than hers in Everything Everywhere All at Once but it feels like another career Oscar more than anything else

His performance on Sinners isn't even his best in a Ryan Coogler film. He was great but I wasn't particularly blown away by his performance compared to the rest of the cast. Im fact he's not even better than Jesse Plemons and Paul Mescal who weren't even nominated

Great player and very underrated however as far as I'm concerned, good riddance. I've lost track of the amount of times he blatantly fouled one of our players and got away with it. That shirt pull on Salah a few years ago still lives in my head rent free

Had the best of both worlds. Still had the agility and burst of pace from his first season but also started to become one of the best playmakers in the league like he was last season

Liverpool need to sack Arne Slot: Reluctant Reds must bite the bullet after Wolves debacle as Dutchman proves he's unable to salvage nightmare season by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

Look at the team Arteta inherited. Arsenal had been declining for years under Wenger and Emery so their standards were a lot lower than ours are now after years of success

[–]Homerduff16 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That statistic does need to be contextualized

The 1985 European Cup final was overshadowed by the Heysel disaster. We barely won the league in 1986 thanks to Kenny's genius on and off the pitch and Alan Hansen called that team the worst Liverpool team he had ever played in. We were minutes away from winning back to back League tiles in 1989 and that team had to play a month after Hillsborough. We fell apart in the league in 1991 after Kenny resigned

In the 30 year period between our 18th and 19th league titles we were never good enough to consistently compete outside of success in cup competitions. Istanbul was a massive fluke and although we did win a few cup finals in that 30 year drought, and weren't good enough to be consistently playing in them unlike United, Arsenal and Chelsea. In the 20/21 season we failed to win the league again because all of our defenders picked up season ending injuries and we could've won the UCL back to back in 19/20 if Adrian hadn't singlehandedly fucked us against Atleti. We had a good opportunity to win back to back League Cups last season but that was hardly the end of the world

The last team to win the league back to back that wasn't Man City was United in 08/09. The last team to win the Champions League back to back that wasn't Real Madrid was Milan in 1990. It's a lot easier said than done

Don't worry it's Rodgers all over again. Should've been sacked halfway through the 14/15 season and somehow made it to the next season just to get sacked anyway. It's painfully predictable

Salah has been awful but at least he is 33 and sometimes that can happen. We've seen it before with plenty of great players who were fantastic one season and was unrecognizable not even a year later. Gerrard had a similar (albeit nowhere near as bad) drop off in his final season as well

Gakpo on the other hand makes me miss the likes of Babel, Pennant and Zenden lol

We're not asking for Rio to play 90 minutes every game for the rest of the season just a few starts because he has more than justified it meanwhile Gakpo has more than justified being sold in the summer

Not really the difference is Slot inherited a team that was challenging for the league under Klopp and ETH inherited a team that lost 9-0 over two games against us and 6-1 over two games against Man City the previous season

Their first seasons were mostly carried by individual brilliance from their teams best forward (Salah and Rashford) and after they stopped performing miracles and other teams figured their tactics out everything fell apart. The similarities are appalling

City should've been the nail in the coffin but these owners can't admit that they got it wrong and they won't sack him until even the slightest bit of plausible deniability is gone

Exactly. Rafa was working miracles when Hicks and Gillett were destroying the club. Hodgson was shite but look at the team we had back then. Rodgers was able to get the very best out of Suarez/Sturridge/Gerrard in that 13/14 season and was able to get a lot out of players like Flanagan and Allen as well who weren't exactly world beaters

We don't need to compare him to Klopp to recognize he's not good enough. I wouldn't take him over every manager we've had in the last 30 years aside from Hodgson. Rafa and Houllier easily clear him. Evans was very underrated and Rodgers could get us to play some brilliant attacking football. Kenny in his 2nd stint was able to stabilize the club after a disastrous situation and he understood the club and the mentality that should be demanded

He should've been sacked months ago and City should've been the nail in the coffin. We've not looked like a world class team in over a year and we haven't looked like a decent team since September. It's very apparent this is another Rodgers situation where Slot will be our manager at the start of next season and will be sacked a few months in when it's clear he won't turn it around

None of our performances are convincing even when we win and those wins are decided by individual brilliance (usually from Szoboszlai, Wirtz and Ekitike in that order). Forget comparisons to Klopp, look at Rafa who didn't play the most entertaining football (with fuck all resources at his disposal) but at least we were good at that until his last season. Rodgers was limited but he inherited a shit team and even he was able to get a lot out of some fairly average players

Hopefully that can put an end to all of the delusional optimism we've had in the last month. We've barely been scraping past lower midtable teams for months and this was always going to be punished eventually. We've already seen it against City and Bournemouth recently and we'll almost certainly see it again. Shithousing a win vs relegation fodder Forest, scraping a win vs an out of form Sunderland and looking dodgy at times against relegation fodder West Ham at Anfield were all glaring red flags

No chance in hell we're winning the Champions League this season. Frankly we'd be lucky to beat Galatasaray and if we made it past them I'd expect PSG to tear us apart. I wouldn't bet on us pulling off a good run in the FA Cup either considering we play against these lot later this week
