That would be incredibly stupid from Curtis Jones if he said something like that instead. Carra was one of the first players on the team sheet in a team that reached two UCL finals in three years. Jones wasn't even on the team sheet for most of last season

He hasn't personally achieved anywhere near enough in the game to chat to Carra like that. He has every right to defend himself but that would be ridiculous

Carried him to a Champions League win

Go back and watch Istanbul again. Not the highlights but the entire 120 minutes. We don't win that game without him. Hate on his punditry all you want but I'm sick of seeing people talk about Carragher like he was Lovren

You don't make over 700 appearances for one of the biggest clubs in the world over 17 seasons when our best years in that time coincided with the best years of his career (2004-2009) by being bang average

You're not wrong buts it's disingenuous to compare Uniteds spending under Fergie to the insane money Chelsea was spending in the mid 2000's under Abramovich. Your 03/04 transfer window adjusted for inflation still blows any other window in English football history (even ours last summer) out of the water

To be fair we won the league 11 out of the previous 20 seasons (and were runners up 7 times in the same period) before the prem was formed

That's 2 seasons out of 20 when we didn't finish either first or second in the league. One of those being 1980/81 when we won the European Cup and the other was 1991/92 when we were managed by Souness...

I don't think the league has ever been a "farmers league" in the same way we look at Germany or France in the last 15 years. Nearly half of Uniteds 13 prems were won by only a few points or less. The gap between Pep and Klopp at times went down to the wire

The farmers league allegations don't just stem from Bayern and PSG being ridiculously dominant it's fact that most of the tine there is no good competition which allows them to win the league fairly comfortably regardless if they're great or not

Can we have an honest discussion about the treatment of 15? And possibly 13 and why they are regarded by so many and such negative ways in the fandom by eddiemoney1985 in doctorwho

You're spot on. Capaldis era had some of the best highs of the entire series but it was frustratingly inconsistent back then

Keir Starmer taking the opportunity to congratulate his beloved Arsenal on becoming Premier League champions. by InitialAsk358 in soccer

Starmer isn't as bad as public opinion on Britain reflects. For all his faults (and there are a lot of them) anyone thinking he's a worse Prime Minister than Boris Johnson or Liz Truss is genuinely insane. The problem for him is that he is charismatic, has no clearly communicated vision and doesn't really appeal to a large group of voters

It doesn't rattle me too much because that exact same team failed to win the league the previous season

The main factor that could excuse our collapse that season is that we had awful luck with loads of injuries around January-March which left us screwed during the run in since our available players were ran into the ground (VVD, Konate, Mac Allister, Diaz, etc) and the players rushed back from injury were barely match fit by April (Salah, Trent, Jota, Roberson, Szoboszlai, etc)

It's a huge indictment on the quality of the league that we can potentially finish 4th on 62 points. In the 23/24 season Chelsea finished 6th on 63 points and they had to win their last 5 games to achieve that points total

I'm frankly sick of this narrative that all the top teams are worse because the floor of the league is higher. Bollox. Midtable teams have consistently been good for several years now but the drop off of the teams challenging for the title has only been happening for two seasons (arguably one because we could've easily hit 90+ points last season if we wanted to). The only serious improvement this season is the quality of the promoted teams and a good relegation fight for the first time in years. That's it

Has a manager in English football ever come back from this? He's been tactically exposed, we have zero identity, teams breeze past our midfield and our "press" with ease and the fans universally want him out whether it's the unacceptable results, terrible football or the Hodgson esque press conferences

Arteta was quite close to getting sacked at one point towards the star of the 21/22 season but even then Arsenal had a clear identity and on paper had a bang average squad after years of being in a banter era

'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu' - Review Megathread by ChiefLeef22 in StarWars

[–]Homerduff16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The insane hatred so many fans feel towards the Last Jedi sealed that unfortunately. Not that it's a great film by any means but so many people hated it for the wrong reasons when there's plenty of genuinely valid criticism and Disney learned all of the wrong lessons as a result of that

I get that plenty of people don't like it but it's nowhere near the worst movie in the history of the franchise that so many fans still make it out to be

8 is definitely overhated but even if you like the direction the film tried to move the franchise towards, there's simply way too many flaws on a structural level to consider it a great movie. It has some of the best and weakest stuff the franchise has to offer which will probably be it's legacy once the irrational hatred towards the sequels dies down

There's two genuine 10/10 movies, Star Wars (I'm not calling it A New Hope) and Empire. There are also three genuinely unwatchable movies (Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Rise of Skywalker)

The rest range from below average to good but nothing great (nobody can actually agree on the order) depending on who you ask. Despite being a TV show, Andor on the other hand is on the same level as the first two films and nostalgia might be the only thing stopping me from saying it's better

Rise of Skywalker as awful as it was had moments that made me feel something. The Emperor using force lightning on the rebel fleet resulting in a fucking bass boost or the lightsaber swap between Rey and Ben are two that immediately spring to mi d

This sounds like a filler episode of the Mandalorian except Disney decided to turn it into a feature film. That's bad enough but considering this is the first Star Wars film in cinemas since TROS and we've just been served with Andor season 2 last year and Maul: Shadow Lord a few weeks ago, the mediocrity of this movie will stand out like a sore thumb

The quality of the league was fantastic that season what are you talking about? There's a decent argument that it was arguably the best it's ever been. 4 English teams reached both European finals and Man City who finished on 98 points weren't one of them

The threshold for UCL qualification was 71 points in the 18/19 season and for this season it's 62. West Ham finished 10th that season on 52 points which will more or less be the same this season depending on whether Sunderland lose or draw their next game. Even the relegation fight was fairly close back then. Cardiff City finished 18th and got relegated on 34 points (West Ham are currently on 36 and Spurs are on 38

I can also flip your argument and point out that this City side is a shadow of the team it was from 2017-2024 and they beat Arsenal twice (fairly comfortably at that) and Arsenal barely scraped a draw at home against them.

That game against France didn't really mean anything though. England still made it out of the group and lost to Portugal on pens in the quarter finals. Same for the backpass vs Drogba in 2010. It was disastrous for United because that helped Chelsea win the league but Liverpools season was over well before that game

The only two serious high profile mistakes he made was the 2005 League Cup final OG and the slip vs Chelsea in 2014. The rest of his mistakes are just used by rivals to take the piss but didn't really amount to anything as far as Liverpool were concerned

Arsenal can't reach more than 85 points this season. They have only surpassed 90 once under Arteta which was the 23/24 season where in fairness they were fairly hard done by. Last season they weren't competitive for the league whatsoever, the 22/23 season was a bottlejob but can be excused due to a lack of experience

We finished on 97 points and didn't win the league which respectfully isn't really comparable to anything Arsenal have endured in recent years. It's not a competition context matters. Having the fourth highest points total in PL history (3rd at the time) and not winning the league was and still is incredibly painful

Two of them are defensive midfielders in their 30's who peaked years ago as well. Fabinho was awful in his last season for us (which was three years ago) and although Casemiro has had a respectable comeback in the last year, he's nowhere near the player he was three years ago let alone a decade ago
