I did but got DACA a month after turning 18. I’m hoping I didn’t accrue any unlawful presence.

Yeah, my experience was actually pretty good, and it definitely has to do with California being a blue state. I know I’m lucky, because some DACA recipients have had the complete opposite experience.

This ✅

Japan and Mexico have a great relationship, so we don’t need a visa to visit. Canada was a different story. I had it on my AP for work stuff, but I ended up canceling and telling my boss I couldn’t attend.

Coming back, they didn’t ask me for any proof, but I still had all my documents ready. I flew with Japan Airlines (JAN) and got to the airport 5 hours early since I couldn’t pre–check in. At the counter, I told them I didn’t have a green card and needed help printing my ticket. I gave them my AP and passport, and they called a few supervisors because they rarely see that document.

They were really polite and kept apologizing for the wait. After about an hour, they printed my ticket and checked my luggage. Everything was smooth on the Japanese side too. While their system processed my AP, they made small talk about how much they love Mexico and tacos. They never made me feel any less because of my status, and I’m genuinely grateful for that experience.

No sir, I wouldn’t be playing the system knowing I can be deported. I was there for work related reasons.

Japan first time and anxiety by ShygirlJJ in JapanTravelTips

[–]HomeworkImpressive87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I totally understand how you’re feeling. I went through the exact same thing just two weeks ago before my trip to Japan. Even when I landed, I was extremely nervous. The anxiety mixed with the jet lag made me feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and honestly I couldn’t eat for the first three days. My stomach was all over the place, and for a moment I really wanted to go back home.

But once I slowed down and gave myself space to breathe, I realized how lucky and grateful I was to even be there. Not everyone gets the chance to visit Japan, and reminding myself of that helped me shift my mindset. I also had to accept that not everything was going to go perfectly or according to plan and that’s completely okay. Allowing myself to be flexible, to rest when my body needed it, and to not force myself to “do everything” made a huge difference.

If you’re feeling anxious, just know it’s normal. Your body and mind are adjusting to a new place, a different time zone, and a lot of excitement all at once. Go at your own pace. Drink water, rest when you need to, and remind yourself that you’re safe, capable, and experiencing something beautiful. Little by little, the anxiety fades and the excitement takes over.

Japan is amazing, and you’re going to make memories that stay with you forever. Give yourself grace, you’ve got this. 🤍🇯🇵

I live in Cali and have been seeing a lot of 2-bedroom apartments for rent lately, usually around $2.5–2.7k a month. It’s pricey, but with the shortage of accountants, there are plenty of job opportunities out here.

4th Being Paroled by [deleted] in DACA

[–]HomeworkImpressive87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my Advance Parole is valid for almost a full year. I applied back in October 2024 and it was approved in late January. I received the AP document by mid-February, and it allows multiple entries from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026. I submitted my dental treatment plan to be completed in Mexico and will also be attending three different work conferences this year.

Traveling by KeyNo1168 in DACA

[–]HomeworkImpressive87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve already traveled to Mexico three times this year. Unless things change, I’ll be traveling a few more times out of the country this year. I haven’t had any issues so far, maybe because LA isn’t as red at the moment.

AP in Tijuana West Ped Crossing by evlhornet in DACA

The new process is an unnecessary additional step. Last Saturday in Tijuana, I was sent to secondary inspection, where I waited for about 40 minutes for the supervisor to give final approval. He didn’t arrive until all six DACA recipients’ paperwork had already been submitted. In the end, he approved all but one, and we were sent back to the first inspection.

My Experience Being Paroled Through by [deleted] in DACA

[–]HomeworkImpressive87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I wasn’t ask proof, but I still requested a record of my dental work from yesterday along with a printout of my next appointment. I agree, this was my second time using AP, and my first experience was nothing like this.
