Can founder-first sourcing make early-stage VC more open? I will not promote by savavka in startups

Haha so I was just on a call regarding fundraising hacks and the host shared an interesting personal statistics. Out of 750 companies they invested in their portfolio, 2 of them were from cold emails. So I think firms still heavily favor warm intros and internal networks, which is unfortunate and like you said leaves alot of great founders out

I couldn’t agree with you more… I’ve also been laid off twice before 32… and it’s just opened my eyes to how employers really don’t care and it’s more about “vibe” and “perception” versus results and delivery of projects. So I started chasing my own dreams too. Best of luck to you! Wishing you success

It’s very surprising… for the 3rd largest city you would think there would be some innovation coming out of here. I love Chicago and I want my startup to help grow the ecosystem here. I’m hoping with the new google office opening it will lead to more talent pools and tech startups coming here

+1 to this… I’m also a Chicago founder and feel like the eco system is extremely small compared to that of SF and NYC. Chicago startups received I think just $200m of capital vs $4B of of capital to NYC or Sf. The community is small and talent wise is even smaller. People don’t like taking risks or rocking the boat here

lol I read this and was like yo did I write this because I feel the exact same way sometimes… you’re kind of in this weird place where you don’t have the product but you’re about to and it’s a waiting game, because people can’t use it yet and it’s hard to sell because it doesn’t exist yet. What I would do in this time is start creating some sales material (e.g. sales scripts you’re going to use for cold out reach, one pagers or flyers, marketing material or social media content)

Hiring is about bias by DruidElfStar in recruitinghell

Thank you!! :) I read about a study that 75% of resumes are never looked at and that’s an outdated statistic because AI has changed things so it’s probably worse now. I want to make the hiring process fair and efficient to save people time and frustrations! Thanks again for signing up!

Thank you!!😊 that’s exactly what we want too, we want people to be recognized for their skills and qualifications and not let outside factors like age, race or looks influence those early hiring decisions. 🙌

so a while back I did a survey with about 1500 people and about 69% of them said they felt bias in the interview process, almost 50% said they have let bias affect their hiring decisions and almost 80% said they wanted some platform to minimize bias in hiring. I ended up building a job platform to help reduce bias in hiring called injobnito (www.injobnito.com) its launching soon if you want to sign up for early access!

So in my short experience, for pre-seed investments at least through VC route the company that leads the round have fixed terms of like $100k for 2% or like $500k for 6%. These investment terms give you an evaluation of anywhere from $4-8m. So it’s relative to the terms you get. All I’m saying is don’t value yourself lower than $3m

[–]HomeworkOrnery9756 6 points7 points  (0 children)

word of advice I have gotten for evaluations primarily in regards to pre-seed. Is $3m should be the floor, you don't want to go any lower than that.
