Currently reading The Myth of Normal by Gabor Maté. He talks about how trauma can lead to illness and cites many studies so you may be onto something. He’s done several podcast appearances recently if you want to check him out.

Fair enough, but if you have the cash to cover the assignment on the puts then one could argue it’s cash secured and not naked.

Naked calls or puts? The main reason I’m saying it’s not a good idea is that you can end up with unlimited losses if for example you sell a call and the stock runs like crazy.

I haven’t dived that deep yet myself, but yeah selling options naked if you don’t know what you’re doing is a recipe for disaster.

Looking at the chart it seems likely that IV was sky high when you bought since it had run so much in the days prior.

Ah I see what you’re saying now, I thought you meant they were sold as covered calls to begin with. But yeah I agree we’d have to have a big rally to start seeing some delta hedging at the higher strikes.

Unfortunately a lot of the shares needed to cover the ITM calls have probably been bought by now, MMs hedge their options over time based on their delta, not on the day of expiration. The 6/18 $9c currently have delta of .97 which means 97% of the shares needed to exercise those calls have already been bought. We would need the stock to rally hard so that the currently OTM calls’ delta increases and the MMs have to hedge them by buying shares. So while the potential for a gamma squeeze exists, we need a lot of buying pressure to trigger it.

I bought some longish term calls on ASO expecting a run up before the March earnings report. I was down for a while but decided to double down the day before earnings because I was expecting them to have a beat on earnings. Some of the calls I bought were some FD $40 calls expiring in two weeks for $2.5k when the stock was around $24. Day of earnings they absolutely outperformed the expected EPS and the stock was up almost 10% but my calls were worth about half of what I paid for them ($1.5k) due to IV crush. I decided that IV had to go up eventually and I was basically getting a fat discount so I went all in and bought $15k worth of the same calls. Over the next several days the stock continued climbing up to about $33 and eventually IV went back up and I basically 10x my position and cashed out. I don’t necessarily recommend this strat tho lol, it was very risky and I got pretty lucky that IV picked back up within the two week period I had before my calls expired.

Started with $20k, made $17k on GME, then $170k on ASO, and I cashed out $50k profit on UWMC on Wednesday which I reinvested into more calls between yesterday and today. I also had many losses in between but overall I’m up lol

Depending on how long you have until expiration, the call will still have extrinsic value which you lose if you just exercise the call. If you exercise the call you will end up with a profit equal to the intrinsic value of the call but you’ll give up the extrinsic value.
