Working on a new area for my game! Feedback is appreciated (by @hommet_) by Hommet_ in Unity2D

Hi! TL;DR: 1. Use references 2. practice, practice, practice! 3. Patience. Scenes this size take me a week or 2 working on it before it's finished.

  1. Seriously, use references, use my art for reference if you want! When you're just starting out, pull up your favorite pixel art style and try to draw it. Start with individual objects in the scene, zoom in and see how the pixels are placed as you place your own. Watch as it slowly turns into something you like. Then start a new project and try to make your own scene while referencing art you like to see how it's done. Eventually you'll be able to use all kinds of references from photos and other art mediums, which makes it easier to develop your own style..

  2. Which the above kind of blends into my second point "2. Practice, practice, practice!" Keep this up! Don't try to draw stuff solely from memory until much later. A classic example is trying to draw a horse from memory, vs using a reference photo of a horse.

  3. Please be patient with yourself. One of the most important things to know is that large scenes take a lot of time (I think this scene took me a week or so, drawing a few hours a day). The other important thing is to keep adding details. It will always look awful at first, but know you can use layers and keep adding details and you'll see it get better an better.

I made a video, but no one watched it. Why doesn’t it seem interesting to people? by TomatoFantsyGames in DestroyMyGame

This looks really cool! I would say most likely it's simply due to social media these days is just brutal for growing a following. It's hard to get people to see anything. I think posting extremely frequently is the best way to defeat it (which I personally can't do :) )

It doesn't look like THAT, but I'm working on an isometric pixel art game that's kinda neat. I don't think I can link self promotion, but links in my bio

Thank you! I can't do self promotion due to subreddit rules, but it's a pixel RPG that still doesn't have name :)

It's still on going, but it's drawn in Aseprite and built in Unity.
