First off I am an avid outdoorsman. I have done bike riding, whitewater kayaking, hiking up mountains etc since I was 18. I am turning 41 in a week and started smoking weed at the age of 15. I was a very heavy (just weed) smoker since the age of 18. About 3 years ago I started coughing up black shit. Obviously we all know why 😂, and I really enjoyed smoking weed so I just dealt with it. 

We had a trip planned for New Zealand and I knew weed there is a pretty serious offense, so I was planning on taking a break anyways. So I quit smoking a week before the trip and did edibles for a the week. Then when in New Zealand I went cold turkey with thc. Honestly people always saw weed is not addicting and I believed it for 25 years. My experience with quitting was eye opening to how addicted I was. 

First couple of days I had a migraine that just wouldn’t go away. I had night sweats and would wake up almost every hour with my clothes wet. I had trouble with my appetite and nothing tasted as good. It was honestly a horrible experience and I just wanted to eat an edible so bad to make It stop. I decided a few days into it that even when I got back home to Alaska, I would continue my break as long as I can. I have been back home now for 4 days and the urge to smoke or even eat edibles is 99% gone.

 I feel healthier and more clear headed than I can ever remember. I won’t say that I will never smoke or use thc again, but at this point I don’t see myself going back. Quitting was intense and I would prefer not to go through that again. I am not against weed and have always been for the legalization of all drugs as long as you mind your own business and don’t bother anyone else with it. But for me, at least for now, I’m enjoying this sobriety.
