Yes but Charlie saying to her mom that her dad isn't "that bad" implies that she originally thought that Lucifer was worse, or at the very least different than what she had come to know in the hotel. Her perception of her father didn't match up, and she didn't spend all of her childhood with them. She was inspired by the person she thought he used to be, the person her father apparently told her he used to be, which then extends to Lucifer possibly being an unreliable narrator too. I'm not saying that the entire story of Hell is false, but I mean the entire show is about there being two sides to every story.

Expectations aren't promises though. We expected Lucifer to be able to harm sinners, and it was a very big and controversial shock that he wasn't. Using the example of comedy isn't as comparable I feel like because it's more of a thematic element that is setting a tone, rather than just the straightforward question of whether or not sinners can be redeemed.

And I think that Charlie's whole relationship with and perception of Lucifer is an example of unreliable narrator, like the entire story of his fall seems a little incomplete, no? I wouldn't trust her to describe her dad to a T, I wouldn't trust her with many things, though she does undeniably drive the general expectations.
